Question. If I purchase Logos 4 can I install it on more than one home computer? I have a desktop and laptop and I am always switching between them. It would be nice if I could use the software on both...just wasn't sure if this is okay.

Not only is it allowed, but we designed the software to try and make this scenario more awesome than in previous versions. By default, Logos 4 will automatically synchronize all of your Documents, Program Settings, Search History, Favorites, Highlighting, Layouts, etc. between your computers. So if you're the middle of studying a particular passage on the desktop, you should be able to fire up the laptop and essentially pick up right where you left off.

In order to use the software, you login using your logos.com account. Most people probably only do it once and then have it save their credentials. So, when you start up the software, it connects to the Logos 4 synchronization servers and synchronizes your local user data. If there are changes on the server that your local computer doesn't have, it downloads them; and if there are changes on your local machine that need to go to the server, it sends them.
If you use the instructions in the FAQ to find and open your application logs, you'll see the software connect to the sync servers every couple of minutes.
You can use the Program Settings to tell Logos 4 not to connect to the Internet if you want to turn it off.

I also use Logos on both my desktop computer, laptop, and iphone. Quick question, as I have yet to download the L4 Alpha to my laptop yet and am still using 1.2.2. Since I pretty much keep Logos up and running 24/7 on my desktop, how will this affect syncing when I use the laptop? In other words, am I able to be logged in on my desktop and laptop at the same time, and if so how will this affect syncing? As I do work on my laptop will it automatically sync up on the desktop or will it not make these updates until I shut down and restart the program on the desktop?

As a Logos 4 customer with too many computers have had Mac Alpha and PC Beta running at same time with internet connectivity, have learned "Sync Now" can be quite useful for transferring stuff.
Also Logos 4 periodically sync's while running.

So here's a scenario for you. We have two laptops, one that I work on mostly, and one that my wife uses (and use as well for email, etc. at times). Can I install Logos on both machines and allow my wife the opportunity to use Logos as well for her Bible study? Technically, we're "one flesh" so it's really the same person using the software in God's eyes, right? [:D]

I think Bob's reply linked above covers the ethical question you posed initially, but I thought it would be worthwhile to chime in with some technical details:
We make some assumptions technically in how data is synchronized that assumes that an email address represents an individual's behavior that could seem odd when it's actually two folks. For instance, resource positions, layouts, notes, search history, history and favorites (among others) are all synchronized automatically.
So, the results of your last study session in Logos 4 might greet your wife the next time she fired up the machine and vice versa. You'd also share a single collection of Notes, Reading Plans and any other kind of document.
None of those quirks may bother you, but I figured I'd mention it so that you weren't surprised.

My wife and I consider Logos a family resource, and as such both use it for our personal BS and for the class we co-teach. Since we have different study styles, we create our own layouts and simply put our initials as the first part of each name. So, when I fire up Logos, all I normally have to do is choose my layout for that study and I am ready to go. Highlighting is a bit more of a challenge since that lives with the bible version, but so far it hasn't been something that has been that big of an inconvenience.
As far as prayer lists go, as long as you don't put in prayers like "God help my wife work on her unreasonable attitude" Or "Help her do her fair share of the chores around the house" your marriage should survive sharing Logos.

Can I prevent my logos from syncing between certain devices. Example: I use logos on my iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPhone. I like how they synch and if I stop reading at chapter 2 in a book, when i pick up that book on my other device i can pickup right where i left off. However, my wife uses logos on her iPhone and often reads the same books as i do so we can discuss. How do i make it so her phone and laptop doesn't interfere with the synching of mine? Can you limit the synching of logos on certain devices?

I am fairly certain the answer is no. Perhaps you can turn the "use internet" (under preferences) off on one. They would still sync up when you do manual syncs though. This is, of course, the drawback to having two users as "one."
Perhaps she can use a different translation?
Another option would be for her to save a layout (and resave it each time)

Yet another idea: his and hers reading plans for same resource that can sync to all devices.
Food for thought: if both husband and wife are often using Logos at same time may be prudent to purchase his and hers set of Logos resources (also avoids sync surprises since Logos 4 was designed to be used by one person with sync updates to other devices used by that person). Like a real library when one book is often in use, can be prudent to purchase another copy.

Yes. For example, If you open a book to "page 100" on your computer, and later open the book on your iOS device, the book will open to page 100.

Currently, no. However, this is in the works and is supposed to be here "soon." Of course, soon is relative. It is much shorter for the developers on a timetable, and much longer for us users! [:D]

Will we be able to highlight and take notes on the Ipad as well and have it sync back to Logos desktop? I know everyone wants to be able to use their iPad as a study tool because of the portability but without being able to highlight and take notes like all the other book readers, the Logos App is not being used to its fullest capacity. I hope and pray that it is coming soon.

i can not even sync a reading plan that i created on my desktop version to my ipad . why don't they fix this first ? I am sick of this ... the only plan being synced is the "read the bible in a year" plan which i don't want or need ....

First, welcome to the forums!
We don't have any definitive answer from Logos. What we do know is that they are hard at work revamping the syncing features between Logos4 & the mobile apps. A new beta is expected within a few weeks, which will introduce sync 2.0 features. We are hoping that this will include a new version of the mobile apps in the near future. For all our sakes, I hope I am right! [:)]

I have debated buying Logos for weeks, but haven't. I want to....but Olive Tree DOES have Highlighting and notes, something I believe is critical for study. I am truly amazed Logos does not have it.

I agree with you that Highlighting and notes are critical. In my opinion, however, I would rather have my resources in Logos on my computer and NOT have them on my mobile devices than the other way around. Of course, what I really prefer is to have them on both! Hopefully our wait won't be too much longer. I am holding out hope for a date before Christmas.

Well, I tend to study more while I am not at my computer. I use my ipad and iphone a LOT. Olive Tree has sent a message that they will have a desktop version very soon.
Don't get me wrong, I like what I see with Logos. But, for the kind of money it costs, it ought to be able to do what the less expensive companies can do.

One consideration is license handling since every human user needs their own Logos license; related consideration is user account management on library computers along with storage so each licensed Logos user has their own account, which is not shared with others. Scholar's Platinum uses ~ 11 GB in the users folder.

From a strictly legal perspective: yes.
In practice: not necessarily. Bob has essentially said that if you're two professional users (students, teachers, ministers...), then you need two licenses, but if you're 'just' husband and wife, or one professional with a spouse that does a bit of devotional reading on the side, then he's ok with you sharing (though he won't put it in the EULA since he knows the always-looking-for-loopholes crowd would use it against him).
Same with kids: if it's a ten-year-old doing a school assignment: fine; if it's a grown-up doing a theology degree: not fine, he should have his own.
