Since my first suggestion for Logos 9 was to polish what is currently present, I have decided to see what that would really mean. My victim for testing is the Text Comparison Tool - bugs and suggestions.I am only checking the desktop PC application. Please feel free to join the fun. Everyone's input is useful.

Some of you will find old suggestions bumped. If yours are not bumped it either means that it appears to be done OR I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Depending on your perspective, either very late at night or very early in the morning.

I checked the settings and did not find any options for text comparison.

What might be nice is being able to group all of the verses in the range in the selection box by bible.  The default is to group by verse so that verse 001 list all bibles then verse 002. When comparing many bibles it would be nice if we could group all of each bible then the next bible then the next bible.

The easy way would be for the program to add the three digit verse number just after the bible name.  Then we could sort the list by paragraph and get the by bible list. [Need three digits because of Psalms]

    Now: Raw text                                                    Sorted text

Bible A (verse 1) words                               Bible A a set of words (words from verse 2)

Bible B (verse 1) more words                    Bible A words  (words from verse 1)

Bible A (verse 2) a set of words                 Bible B more words (words from verse 1)

Bible B (verse 2) second set of words       Bible B second set of words (words from verse 2)

Note that bible A does not sort correctly because the words in verse 2 sort before words in verse 1

    Then:  Raw text                                                    Sorted text

    Bible A 001 (verse 1) words                            Bible A 001  words

    Bible B 001 (verse 1) more words                  Bible A 002  a set of words

    Bible A 002 (verse 2) a set of words               Bible B 001  more words

Bible B 002 (verse 2) second set of words    Bible B 002  second set of words

Note that both bible texts sort correctly because the verse number is listed.

[Might also have to add the three digit chapter number]

So the options for text comparison would be:

Text comparison:  Add Chapter number as 123

Text comparison: Add Verse number as 123

After reviewing the other threads I saw that some listed the book, chapter, and verse but do not see how to turn that on. Using 8:10:0:0034

If you link with a bible, it can quickly fall behind, to the point where the verse you have at the top in the bible does not actually appear in the tool anymore. It is easy to see if after scrolling down a few verses in the bible, you then decide to scroll back up a little.

    The web app works perfectly.

Edit - not sure if you actually wanted the bugs reported here? Ignore me if not.

Edit2 - I have had a play and it seems to be a problem with Content Scaling (Program Scaling does not seem to affect it).

Edit3 - I found some threads if you wish to bump them, it is a known bug.

Party is over. Collect your coffee and donuts - [C]

    F7 and Tools >Passage>Text Comparison

This feature has been rewritten recently and is nearly impossible to break. Most apparent failures are either errors in the resources or the chair-screen interface forgetting the magic is “click outside” the Text Comparison Resource Picker.

    Features

    - filter the Text Comparison results (Ctrl+F to filter Text Comparison tool)

    - sort Text Comparison results (SUGGESTION: ability to sort the Text Comparison results)

    - sympathetic highlight in Text Comparison results (SUGG: Text Comparison - Word/Phrase High Lighting)

    - reports non-existent textual differences (Bug: Text Comparison differences)

    Layout

    - insert space between Bible versions in the vertical layout (Suggestion: Spacing in the Text Comparison Vertical Layout) Note: In my opinion, this is needed only when the panel itself is narrow; in broader panels, the format is one line per version

    - ability to modify comparison font colors (Can Text Comparison font colors be changed?)

    Limitations

    - limited compare function when a resource lacks expected verse milestones (chapters tagged but verses ignored.) Note a specific error associated with the Wuest resource (Wuest in Text Comparison not working correctly)

    - verse numbers show twice outside Bibles because of resource formatting (Text Comparison Tool Citation error)

    - limited when (a) first version lacks reference and (b) when top five Bibles do not all contain reference (BUG with SUGGESTION: Inconsistent text comparison; faulty behavior when version list is a collectionSUGGESTION: Is this a reasonable workflow - top 5 occurrences not top 5 possible occurrences.; SUGGESTION: Top 5 occurrences not top 5 possibilities) Note: in my opinion, I overdid requesting this.

    Navigation

    - up and down arrows to move to prior and next verse (Previous/Next Verse in Text Comparison Tool)

    - failure to jump to verse within the displayed chapter (Bug - Text Comparison)

    - click to move verse partially in view to fully in view (Text Comparison Tool Navigation). Note: in my opinion, this is resolved by the “up and down arrows” request.

    - open Text Comparison from Context Menu (Suggestion on Bible Right Click dialogue box): Note: as TCBlack observes we do have the F7 function meeting some portion of this need.

    - to/from navigation between Text Comparison, Compare Versions, Cluster Graph, Version River, and perhaps Morph River (SUGGESTION: improve integration of Logos Tools - Compare versions section of Passage Guide) Note that this request navigating from a Bible overlaps this navigation (Suggestion: Quicker & Predictable Passage Analysis / Word Tree access)

    Usability

    - versions for comparison (Text Comparison Resource Picker) don’t stick (bug: dropdown box in text comparison no longer works) Note: I share the frustration but recognize that the implementation is very effective. If we had the same UI in several locations the “click outside the tool” would become natural. Or putting a small “done” button in the UI would also resolve the issue.

    - Text Comparison response time in linked panes (BUG- Text Comparison -OK let's try this one more time)

    Other related features

Note: in my opinion if the Text Comparison tool is expanded, a status showing the user if the comparison is based on curated aligned text (interlinear view) or raw text becomes important.

    - Textual variant tool (SUGGESTION: Textual Variant Tool)

    - Compare two recensions (SUGGESTION: Compare two recensions in the Text Comparison tool)

    - Compare any two texts (SUGGESTION: Take Text Comparison to the next level)

David, I don't quite understand your request so I haven't included it but hoped that the existing sort and filter requests would cover it ...

David, I don't quite understand your request so I haven't included it but hoped that the existing sort and filter requests would cover it ...

[Sorry for not getting back sooner.]   [There maybe a way to do this that I have not yet been trained to use]

I use the Text Comparison window to list many bibles when I do a Scripture look up.
I list many English Bibles by using a collection. Then when I list John 20:1 I see:

    John 20:1
ASV 1901 Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, [1]
RVwh Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early,. [1]

    John 20:2
ASV 1901 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]
RVwh She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]

    John 20:3
ASV 1901 Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]
RVwh Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]

Now I sort, by paragraph, the text to bring each bible together [The [#] were added to show order]

ASV 1901 Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, [1]
ASV 1901 Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]
ASV 1901 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]

RVwh Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early,. [1]
RVwh Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]
RVwh She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]

In this case they sort [1] [3] [2] when what we want is [1] [2] [3]   [the sort is by the first word of the verse and not the verse number.]

If the book, chapter, and verse were on each line after the Bible name as:
ASV 1901 John 020:001 Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, [1]
RVwh John 020:001 Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early,. [1]

ASV 1901 John 020:002 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]
RVwh John 020:002 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]

ASV 1901 John 020:003 Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]
RVwh John 020:003 Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]

Now I sort, by paragraph, the text to bring each bible together I would get what I wanted

ASV 1901 John 020:001 Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, [1]
ASV 1901 John 020:002 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]
ASV 1901 John 020:003 Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]

RVwh John 020:001 Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early,. [1]
RVwh John 020:002 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, [2]
RVwh John 020:003 Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, [3]

The program would need to add zeros to pad out the chapters and verses to 3 digits [because of Psalms]
    As ASV 1901 John 20:10 sorts before ASV 1901 John 20:2  [1 sorts before 2 so :10 :11 :12 :13 etc sort before :2]
Where as ASV 1901 John 020:010 would sort correctly after ASV 1901 John 020:002  [:2 is seen as :002 and :10 as :010 and sorts correctly]
