    Collection Title:  Bible Background

Collection Rule:  the same as on Example Commentaries wiki page
    Use: Mostly in Passage Guide

Steve, the multiple resources you have seen as "Back ground" perhaps I have misunderstood what it says above,I just went to the examples which were titled as commentaries I have changed the titles and gave for all of them Background,I have understood it so.

    Blessings in Christ.

    Tes,

In this post of yours above, you are showing this screen shot: (i have drawn in red over it)

    image

    1.  i notice in your Passage Guide (My search passage guide) that you have 8 copies of Bible Background showing.

    In your Passage Guide:

Click on image to expand it and show books under it

Then click on    image  to expand it and show books under it.

Are the books under each of these the same books?

    Tes,

Looks better (i don't see duplications anymore). Is this working for you now in your study? Does it look the same when you change scripture reference?

    Tes,

    Yes i will explain below:

    image

i have my Custom PG open to the scripture reference Luke 19:28-40 (the one i have been using in my examples).

    1.  while i have been studying in here, i have used Add to add collections while studying this verse range.

    2. i also deleted 2 collections in the PG while studying, because i did not want to see them.
(you cannot see them because they are deleted)

    3. Now i will change the scripture reference to Luke 4:14-15 to study it. (like i am asking you to do)

Does it look the same when you change scripture reference?

    image

    4.  Notice that the 2 collections that i deleted in step #2 show up again. (i am wondering if your collections Bible Background come back again)
Also notice the 2 collections that i added in step #1 are not showing up.

i asked you to do this so that i could see how you removed all the duplicate collections in your PG.
If you did them the wrong way then i could tell you the right way to delete them.

No, it seems that you have it fixed the right way. Have fun using your new Custom PG's.

    Tes,

i still see a duplication of Bible Background in your 1st picture.

    image

Also could you change the scripture reference from Romans 8:18-30 to Luke 4:4? Then let me see you screen shot (showing Luke 4:4)

    Tes,

Your last picture shows that you have multiple copies of Bible Backgrounds in your list of collections.
    image

So i will show 2 sets of instructions on resolving this: Editing your Custom Passage Guide, then  Removing Duplicate Collections.

    Editing your Custom Passage Guide

    image

    1.  Notice that i have my Custom Passage Guide open (the title does not say Passage Guide)

                 image

          a.  Notice the icon is different for a Custom Passage Guide

                image

          b.  This is the icon for the Passage Guide (not a custom guide)

    2.  Notice that i have two extra copies of Sayings & Figure of Speech. This is due to having 3 collections with the same name. i will discuss how to resolve this in the next set of instructions. First i want to cleanup my Custom Passage Guide by using the PG editor.

        Using the Custom PG editor

    image

    3. In my Custom PG, click on the icon to open the menu.

    4. In the drop down menu click on Edit guide template to have Logos4 open the guide editor for my custom PG.

    image

    5.  Now Logos4 has opened the guide editor (notice the icon for the guide editor).

    6.  Use the scroll bar to locate my duplicate collections (or a tool that you want to remove from your custom PG).

    7.  Find the duplicate tools that i want to remove from my custom PG. Then click on the X to remove them.

    8.  If you want to add new tools to your custom PG you can click on the tool and Logos4 will add it to the bottom of your list on the right. (this is just extra info that might come in handy)

    9.  When you are done editing your custom PG, then click on the X to close the guide editor.

    ======================================================================

    Removing Duplicate Collections

Now lets learn how to remove our duplicate collections.
It would be a good idea to close all the window in your layout so that you don't get confused.

    image

    1.  In the top menu, click on Tools

    2. In the drop down menu click on Collections and Logos4 will open our collections tool.

    image

    3.  Now we see our collection tool window.

    4. In the collection toolbar, click on Open. Logos4 will show a drop down list of all our collections.

    5. In the drop down list, use the scroll bar to locate your duplicate collections. Notice that they have parenthesis with a number (example: (2) or (3) and so on).

    image

    6. Now to remove a duplicate collection, right click on the collection that you want to delete. Logos4 shows a drop down menu.

    7. In the drop down menu click on Delete and Logos4 will permanently delete that collection.

    8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 to remove other duplicate collections.

i have replied to your email. But it would be better to keep our communications here on the forum. As it would help others learn about questions you might have.

All these years and I never got curious about that “add” button in the passage guide.  There is only so much a person can do with “resource prioritization” in the library.  I am anxious to explore the benefits of managing the resources used in guides.  Thanks for pointing this out in your excellent description of adding collections to the passage guide.  I hope to be a bit more curious for a while as I realize I am missing a few Logos features in my study.  Thanks
