I would like to organize my library according to its type

    Tes,

Logos4 already has your Library arranged by type (for the most part)

    image

    1. Just click the Type column heading, Logos shows you all the types
(see wiki articles: Available Columns in the detailed view, Rearranging Columns in the detailed view, & Using a Column heading to filter your resource list)
    2. Notice the Types, if you click on one of these types Logos4 will expand to show you your books that match that type.
    3. The type Monograph is a very large Type (contains many books) and is a general Type
You could tag books of this type according to how you would categorize them (see wiki article about tagging: Tagging )

Also someone just a few days ago had a post about organizing their library: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28105.aspx Mark gave some good tips on this in the post.

Thank you! I am new to Logos and this was one of my two biggest issues that I've been trying to figure out.  This solution is exactly what I've been looking for.

    Hi Matt - and welcome.

You might also find the wiki article on collections - http://wiki.logos.com/Collections - useful to you.

    Graham

If you want to create collections based on the various types in the Logos Library, use this syntax in the collections. Use a new collection for each line of syntax.

    type:"Bible Commentary"
    type:Encyclopedia
    type:"Bible Notes"
    type:Grammar

Plus any of the other types listed in steve's picture.

Hi, Kevin and Steve, where do I type them?

    Blessings in Christ.

Hi, Kevin and Steve, where do I type them?

You can test a filter like "Type:Bible" by typing it into the "Find" field when you're looking at your library. If you want to create a collection with that filter, select "Collections" under the "Tools" menu. If the collection that comes up is named "Unnamed Collection", you can type in a new name to rename the collection. Then type your filter into the field below "Start with resources matching:". That will give you the same set of resources in that collection (at least as a starting point) as you would have seen in your library when using the same filter.

    Hope this helps,

    Donnie

Hi, Kevin and Steve, where do I type them?

    Tes,

Let's step through and build a Collection.

    image

    1.  In the top menu click on Tools.

    2. In the drop down menu click on Collections.

Logos will open the Collection Tool in your layout

    image

    3.  In the Collections tool window, click on New.

    image

    4.  Click in the name box, then type this name into it:  Bible Dictionaries

    5.  Then click in the Rule box, then type this into it: type:encyclopedia AND subject:bible

Now your collection should look like this, you may have a different number of dictionaries and different books

    image

Now you have a new collection named Bible Dictionaries.

Now let's add your new Collection to your Passage Guide as we study Luke 19:28-40

    1.  Open your Passage Guide.

    image

    2.  In the reference box of your Passage Guide, type: Luke 19:28-40  and then press the Enter key.

    3.  Then click on Add in the Passage Guide's toolbar

    4.  Then in the drop down menu click on Collections

    image

    5.  Hover you mouse over the new Collection bar until you see Settings, then click on Settings

    image

    6.  In the drop down menu find your new Collection Bible Dictionaries and click on it.

    image

    7.  Now click on the Collections bar to expand it. Notice that you see various Dictionaries which have something to do with your passage.

So now you have organized you library a little bit to help you with the Passage Guide.
