BUG video playback error (different from other mentioned)
Lenovo IdeaCentre K430
12g RAM, 2tb drive, 1.5tb free, Win 8.1 pro
Logos 5.2 SR-3 (5.2.0.0091)
error: This video could not be played. For help with troubleshooting this issue please visit our website. [link - https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/media-resources]
The only solution offered is about Direct X. (iTunes/QuickTime, Media Player all up to date) I tried downloading and installing. it errors and says Direct X setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of direct x has been installed already. no installation is necessary.

I am having the same error on another video series inside Logos.
Try this: (assuming you are on Windows) - go to your Logos folder:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Logos4 (or Logos 5)\Data\random\Webcache. COPY one of the files in there, to your desktop. It's a video! Once it is on your desktop, rename it to Test.mp4. Then double click on it. I bet it plays fine! Let us know!

do you know if Logos is working a solution for our, apparent common issue?0 -
Yes - if they don't reply here, watch this thread:

I noted in there that this thread may have the same problem.

up to date on .net 4.5.1.
I have tried turning off my firewall (mcafee), same issue
I also have the Abraham Following Gods Promise and the others as well - same issue.
tried deleting and reloading the class (LT151), same issue
rebooted between the above troubleshooting as well, no change
MY old computer was a dell and it worked with the wall builder medias. haven't tried these on the new system till now (doesn't work, same issue).0 -
This sounds very much like a codec issue. I had issues playing videos (from Windows Media Player) when I first set up my home computer. If you can't play any of the videos it usually indicates that the decoder for h264 isn't installed on your machine. I heard rumblings that Microsoft wasn't installing all of the codecs they once were because they didn't want to pay a license fee for something if people were going to use it.
I looked around a bit and didn't find a link on Microsoft's site for a codec pack. For my personal machine I installed the standard K-Lite codec pack. I can play videos in my copy of Logos but I didn't try before installing that pack so I don't know if worked before the pack or not.
My recommendation would be:
- Try to install the codecs directly from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2483177). Note this pack is specifically to support Windows Server 2008 r2 so I don't even know for sure if Windows 8.1 will let you install it.
- If that doesn't install you might try finding a K-Lite pack (My search in google was something like "windows 8.1 codec")
- We did have a user who was crashing when playing video and updating his video driver solved the issue.
You can always post your logs but for codec issues they haven't been terribly helpful. For help posting logs see http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

tried installing the server patch on my win8.1 system. it failed: Windows Standalone Installer - Installer encountered an error: 0x80096002 the certificate for the signer of the message is invalid or not found. tried the MS suggested fixes, they didn't work.
tried installing latest direct x, and it errors with a newer or equivelant version is installed already. no installation necessary.
then the k-light pack install. seemed to go well. asked to reboot, so I did. launched Logos, then opened lt151, and clicked the first video link and received the same error.
I ALSO own camp Logos 2013,a dn when I open it, the video's run in Quicktime. If I try to open them in Windows player, an image shows and the audio plays, but no video.
since I can, I also tried opening the Faith Life Study Bible Video's - the same logos error is displayed: This video could not be played. for help with troubleshooting this issue please see our website (link: https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/media-resources)
Tried Jacob: Discerning God's Presence Videos next. same issue. again, I have downloaded all teh videos and other files for presentations and when I double click, quicktime launches and runs and the video plays. if I open with windows media player, just has the Jacob image, and the audio plays as above.
so. it does sound more and more like a codec issue. I just have verly little idea of how to make it work. those video's were playing and worked when I had windows 8 pro with media center. apparently the problem came with the .1 update, and nearly everything had to be reinstalled.0 -
seems to work on my android phone, but I don't think I am not going to take my classes on the phone.
any further assistance is appreciated.0 -

What was exactly the issue I had on my personal machine. Interestingly I didn't have the issue on my work machine when I updated to 8.1 and I can't say why that is. I do know I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro at work and I'm not running Pro at home but believe you said you were running Pro... Maybe there's a Media Center update you need?
I did have Windows Media player fail to play the videos but the Windows 8 full screen video player could play them. Then (after another reboot?) Media Player could play them. Can you try playing one of the videos in the Video app?0 -
when I open with "Video", as mentioned, it plays. tried rebooting again, and still same thing. as above.0 -
maybe I need a better computer?
I just bought fancy new PC at home (the third my family has bought this year)... so I might not be the best person to ask if you need a new PC... but I say YES! :-)
Seriously though, I don't think the computer is the issue. We just need to find you a codec that works. The challenge is finding that codec and getting it going. We expected Microsoft to continue supplying codecs after they started in Windows 7 but alas that seems not to always be the case.0 -

Contacting customer support probably wouldn't help with this issue (the case would just eventually get routed to me anyway).
The codec pack I downloaded on my home machine was "K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1015_Standard.exe" I was able to look in my browser history and this is the exact site I downloaded it from: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm.
I was reading somewhere the the k-lite install has a "repair" mode that will fix codecs that aren't working right. I haven't looked for it but that may be a good option.
The other option (though not super fun) would be to call MS and let them know that the videos played before you updated to 8.1 and then stopped playing after the update.

installed with all defaults. local video files play with the 321 (media player classic) player, but not windows media player. they play with the full screed "Video" built in (xbox video?).
K-lite has a reset to recommended settings app, ran it and there seems to be no change. ran the codec tweek tool and didn't want to change anything. there is a LOT of stuff in there. I click reset in the preferred decoders.
still can't play videos in the lL5
gotta be one of the gazillion settings in the tweektool.
oh, and I have been keeping up with MS and Logos updates - Logos Bible Software 5.2 SR-3 (5.2.0.0091) now.0 -
I wish I could tell you exactly what it takes to get this working. Unfortunately I don't know what that is. If you don't mind a little trial and error I'm willing to keep going until we find a solution (hopefully we can even get some reproducible steps in case others have this same issue).
I did a little searching and found this site: http://www.ehow.com/how_6974229_open-file-media-player-11.html which is for Windows Media Player 11 (you probably have 12 but the installer may work). It references this site to download the codec pack: http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html?tag=mncol
I would probably uninstall K-Lite since it didn't do what you need.
If you install the codec pack for Media Center does it change anything?

I had tried the codec pack before klite. tried again, and still can't play a mp4 (new camp logos files) from media player. though will play in quicktime or the built in video player.
the how to only changed the default player for a file type. I have been doing that. I looked in IE settings and there is a place to make that same default change. there is no place that I can see in L5 to select default player for streaming/playing media.0 -

That's correct, we play using the default system installed codecs. The interesting thing is that the codecs seem to be unavailable for you... I'll keep looking.

fyi, current status update. removed all extra codecs and codec packs.
uninstalled media center/WMP, restarted, and reinstalled, restarted.
same symptoms.
an additional point that I had not mentioned is that I have cyberlink powerdvd version 13. this used to work when I was 8.0. id does not work on 8.1. have tried uninstalling, reinstalling that as well. currently not installed as well - trying to eliminate variables.
