Thanks.

I'm having the same problem... I keep getting connection errors. No content whatsoever. I tried to reinstall the application but that didn't work either. I'm sure its a minor issue. But this is a great example of why offline content was such a good idea. Now if we can just get to the content in the first place so I can store it on my phone. :)

It is good to see that I'm not alone in this, and I can stop doing software QA testing on my iPhone [;)]. I've done the same as all of you guys and no joy, thing is I also have it on my iPod touch and  it has not had this occur yet.

To get your books, you have to be connected to the internet via wifi or your carrier. You then need to download the titles you want. This takes some time. I have updated the original post to clarify how this process works. Once you have completed the download, you can then view your titles offline.

    Hope that helps.

I'm having the same problem on two iPod Touches. I'm guessing the server is down. We'll look into it first thing in the morning (if not sooner) and get it corrected.

To help the debug effort, I had it working initially on my iphone 3G then the error couldn't load book appeared and then no library reading plans etc. On the other hand I have it on my ipod touch as well and have not had any problems yet. Hope this input helps you guys figure out the problem.

Are you in airplane mode, or not? Here are my steps:

    1. Download books.

    2. Turn on airplane mode.

    3. Launch Logos (getting this warning)

    image

    4. I then click on my library, and can see the books I downloaded.

    image

    7. I can then read these two books.

    8. Turning airplane mode off, I can then interact with the app as usual.

Hope this helps. If not, as Phil said, we'll get on this first thing in the morning.

It's not just you, Karen. Same problem on my ipod touch here in France. Phil's probably right: maybe the server is down. I've got nothing whatsoever showing up in my library. Maybe our friends need a good night's sleep. They've been working hard [;)].

I am in New Zealand and have no books as well after the upgrade.  The cleaner must have forgot to replug in the server in at the power point after Vacuuming the room out.    It is hard to find good cleaning staff.

I've got the same problem. I'm not sure the server is down. I can read one book (the last one I was reading before I upgraded). Scrolling through it works, except I often get messages saying it can't connect to the server. Yet when I click OK, I can continue.

An update: Switching WiFi off gave me access to all my books again. With WiFi on, I have no access. I very much doubt this is a firewall issue, as I had no problems with 1.1

I have a 2 Gen iPod Touch 3.0 firmware, and after updating to Logos 1.2, I have no books at all in my library now at all (online or offline).  I'm off to work now so I hope there will be something fixed by the time I get home (I was really looking forward to having my books with me at work today!)

PS:  Even my reading plans are gone, too.  Sure hope it's just a server problem (i.e. too many people downloading their books at once!)

I'll confirm that I have to have Wi-Fi disabled on my phone to see any books in my library. Once I have downloaded books, I can then enable Wi-Fi and see my downloaded books, but still can't see any other books in my library.

It's not a server problem, it's a bug in the software. It won't use your WiFi connection to download. Once they fix the bug, all your resources and reading plans will come back. (If you had an iPhone you could switch WiFi off to 'solve' the problem, but that of course won't work with an iPod.)

I updated to the Logos iPhone 1.2 app this morning ~7:30am.  When I opened the app it showed no books in either "library" or "recent books."  I tried signing out and back in to no avail.  I also tried turning wi-fi off and reopening the program and still no books.

I'm really excited on getting off-line access - being able to have off-line access to just one modern english translation will make this a 5-star app for me.

    I should say that I'm a US - iPhone 3gs user.

I should add that I am on international roaming right now and have data roaming off, so it means I am only accessing with WiFi. Perhaps the app works only if there is only one data connection and not both phone network and WiFi???

Weird. No, putting my device into flight mode, and then turning WiFi on, still results in no online access. Ditto for switching to an unavailable cellular network.

I too have tried the various suggestions posted here. I don't think this has anything to do with offline mode unless the app is somehow stuck in offline mode. Connectivity type (Wifi, 3G) makes no difference here... I tried reinstalling like Jason and I got the error message "error loading book" even before signing in. I have no books in my library no matter how I connect... this is going to be really annoying if I've lost use of the app until Logos gets the next update through apple's approval process :(

I do not add a posting here to heap coals on the heads of the Logos team, but rather to share my own experience in hopes that this assists with troubleshooting.

Last night (11PM ET?) I could at least check my reading plan, and read the NASB95.  No apparent problems.  This morning, no reading plans (just the Christmas Specials topic).  No books.

I checked the forums and noticed the upgrade to Logos 1.2 on the iPod/iPhone, so I installed that.  It seems to have gotten worse.

"Read" takes me to a fragment of Genesis (where I was reading a few days ago)  but once I try to page beyond where I was reading I get the "loading" dial-spin (I don't know what this icon is really called, but I hope you understand what I mean) and a message that the resource could not be loaded, then a white screen for a short while, followed by an automatic exit from the App (abend?).  Search yields no results, etc.  There is 'no there there' as they say.

My device is an iPod Touch, 32GB, running 3.1.2 (7D11) of the iPhone/Touch operating system. My connections are always via WiFi.

I look forward to the resolution so I can once again have this fine addition to my 'armor'.

    God bless,

    Steve

Let me clarify. I am not speaking of an issue with downloading and looking at books offline.  There are no books in my library at all, whether using WiFi or 3G.

I am not complaining, I have no room to. This is a free app, which gives me the advantage of viewing some (alot!) of my library while on the run.  It is a perk to being a part of the whole Logos community.

The only reason I posted was to make sure that I wasn't the only one experiencing this.

Thanks to all for confirming this is a seemingly broad issue.  Seems like it's up to Logos (& possibly Apple) to help us get through this one. [:)]

I too was having the same problem of not being able to access my books last night and this morning - and this is on the non-upgraded version (I think I have 1.0 or 1.1 or something like that).  I just upgraded to the 1.2 - hoping it was a fix, but the problem is still there.

Because this error seems widespread and not version specific, I think the error is somewhere on the Logos server (although I am a Pastor and not an IT specialist, so take my my suggestion for what it is worth - which probably isn't a whole lot).

    Blesssings on the repair.

Still nothing.  Uninstalled. Reinstalled. Turned iPhone off and back on before launching app. Message on screen says "Error loading books. Logos could not load the specified book." When I hit "ok" I go to an empty app.  And yes, I am online (wifi) in my home.

I don't know how to explain it but when I turned off my iPhone WiFi, all my books and reading plans are on my iPhone again.  I was even able to download a book to read offline.

I'm not IT expert, but I thought it would be useful for those at Logos to know what is working for some, so they can have a better idea, hopefully, on how to fix it.

    God bless,

    Karen

The App has become empty and useless. Cannot go to the library, recent books or anything after downloading the ESV Bible. I made sure it finished downloading before quitting the App (airplane icon appeared).

Here a screenshot of what I see, and probably all of you, when loading the App.

Tried resetting the iPhone, uninstalling, reinstalling, logging out, etc... nothing works.image

So frustrating and I guess it will require another update to fix this bug.

    Any workarounds?

Actually, this may just be a server issue. I tried loading bible.logos.com, and I get a big error, and nothing else. Maybe their servers are just down...

Edit: Forgot to add that I was having this problem _before_ I updated. I thought I might be having network issues, so was messing, and decided to try launching the App store to see if it had network, and not only did it have it, but I saw Logos had an update, so I tried installing it to see if that would fix my problem--it didn't. So, it's not an update issue, it most certainly is a server issue.

Same issue with me.  iPhone 3GS, latest OS 3.1.2.  Had the previous version of Logos with no issues.  Updated at 10:40 EST using the Apple Store App on the iPhone itself (not through iTunes).  Using 3G and NOT in Airplane mode.

No books display, nor are they accessible.  Get the same error as the screenshot above.

I confirm the same... which is sad because obviously the carrier is much slower that the wifi connection. Hoping it gets fixed soon.

    Curiouser and curiouser...

    I actually am an IT pro...and I think I'm seeing a pattern.

It would appear that somehow requests getting routed through different ISPs are not making it to or from Logos. This would explain why some people are having luck on 3G or WiFi and not the other way around. They use different ISP's. It could also be some issue with a timeout that is set too low. At any rate, it does appear to be some sort of network connection error, not the server being down in the traditional sense.

For the record, I'm having all the same problems.

And, for the record, this kind of thing can be really, really hard to track down. Good luck, my Washington based friends. Sorry you walked into this first thing this morning.

Every one else...deep breath...grab some paper resources if you can and just soldier on. I'm sure folks are probably near panic over in Bellingham, too.

No books here either!  Since the update.

Agree with the comments re. the benefit of not having to have internet access for access to books/content.

The iPHone app is great BUT SLOW because of its need to access the net content.  Makes Olive Tree software esp. attractive because it is so much faster.

The App has become empty and useless. Cannot go to the library, recent books or anything after downloading the ESV Bible. I made sure it finished downloading before quitting the App (airplane icon appeared).

[screenshot with the error "Error loading book - Logos could not load the specific book - OK"]

I've been testing the app the whole evening and discovered the following peculiarities (?bugs) regarding the app:

    1. Many times the books are ?incompletely downloaded - or else there is some corrupt pointer problem.  This gives the "Error loading book - Logos could not load the specific book - OK" error message that you mentioned.

    2. The workaround I found, seems to be: to open the downloaded book, and then navigate to several locations (e.g. using the navigation bar), before quitting the application to go to offline mode and load the app again (for testing or whatsoever).  It appears that only those books which are downloaded and read will open correctly in offline mode.

    3. If the app happens to crash, it may create a ?pointer problem such that thereafter the app will not open properly again.  My guess is it ?crashes again trying to open the last opened book at a corrupted location.  Anyway, this happened to me just now - I now have an app that loads, displays the home screen - with the reading plans and so on - then a page is ?rendered at the back (I see something like "Chapter 28" behind the phone status bar), and 5 seconds or so later the app crashes.  I'm sure it's not a server problem this time as I have two devices to test on and the other works nicely.  Here's the screenshots of the app open -> crash sequence that I described:

    imageimageimageimageimage

Now I have to reinstall the app and re-download all books.  [:'(]

I hope the above would help with the debugging of the app...

    Regards, Amy

Logos has multiple servers that support the application. One of those servers began experiencing intermittent problems last night. Different IP addresses are routed to different servers, which is why for some people it worked over Wifi and not 3G or vice versa. We believe this issue has been resolved now.
