Index of Bible Studies
Several weeks ago I started making an index of Bible studies in Logos: sermons, meditations, outlines, commentaries that are not marked as commentaries, etc. - anything that would not show up easily in the passage guide. The attached file can be compiled as a Personal Book in Logos. The aims are to help me when I prepare material on a given passage, but also to get to know some of the books in my library that I would otherwise not look it. The index is far from complete and is not perfect, but since others in the forum have mentioned they were thinking of doing something similar, I though I would share what I have done so far, so that we do not duplicate our efforts. Others can insert what I have done, just as I would be happy to included what others will do.
Naturally, an index like this depends upon your own library. I have listed books that I have (Platinum in Logos 4 and Logos 5, plus various extras from Logos and third parties), so you may find that some of the links lead to books you do not have.
As time permits, I will try to add more books to this index, and if so I will post updated copies later on.

I have created a new version of the Index of Bible Studies. This includes the Spurgeon, Piper and Keller sermon archives (thanks to Mark Barnes), as well as a number of other new books. So there are now over 30,000 Bible studies and sermons listed. These are Bible studies that would not usually turn up in your Passage Guide, because they are not of the Bible Commentary type.
If you want the want the whole list, download the Index Bible Studies.docx file. If instead you only want a list of the Bible Studies that are in the books that you personally own (and you have a Windows computer), download the MyIndex.zip, unzip the two files in some directory, and run the Index Bible Studies.exe program. After about a minute, a file called My Index Bible Studies.rtf will be created in your Documents directory. Open it in Word or a similar program, and save it as a DOCX file.
In both cases, you can then create a Personal Book in Logos using the DOCX file. Make sure you set the type as Bible Commentary (not just Commentary). Earlier on in this thread you will find an image you can use for the cover if you want to.

Are you talking about this thread? The problem is that the sermons are in a Personal Book, and every time a PB gets compiled by a different user it gets a different id from Logos. (At least, I presume that is the case.) So it is not possible to create a link from my file to a Personal Book that works on other computers than mine, so I can not include those MacArthur sermons in my index.

A year and a half after my first version of this file, I have now created an index of the Bible studies in all the books in my library. More than 1,000 pages, with almost 40,000 Bible studies and sermons listed. Originally, the idea was to include only those resources that do not appear in the Passage Guide. However, since then Logos has implemented the Sermons section of the Passage Guide, so many of the sermons listed in this file will also appear in the Passage Guide, and more will as Logos indexes more of the sermons in their resources. Despite this, I have left those sermons in this document. Maybe in a future version, I will add an option to the program that creates a personal index to exclude the sermons already in the Passage Guide.

Anthony, great job on the cover image. I'd like to use it. Could you fix it from your original file (if you still have it) to spell LOGOS with all upper-case letters instead of with the lower-case 's' at the end? Many people mistakenly spell it Logo's or a plural (LOGOs) but it's all one word, from the Greek word λόγος.

Yet another rich discovery! This Index creator is fantastic!
I have updated the file with my index of Bible studies that I have on Logos, which includes the Logos 6 and denominational packages that I have, and various other resources. There are about 45000 references indexed now. There is also a new version of the program that creates a personalised index that includes only the resources that you (and I) own. For instructions on how to use these files, and in what ways they are useful, see the previous messages in this thread.

I seem to be having the same problem. I am up to date on my Logos version running windows. In the meantime I have compiled the larger index, but would prefer the other.

Retried running the indexer on my other computer (Win. 8.1) and was successful. I do not know why the problem on my desktop (Win. 7).
Recompiled the file, and am now in business. Thanks.
Strange. Maybe the other computer has the correct version of .NET, and the desktop no. Although if they both run Logos, I don't think that should be the problem. Apart from that, I have no idea and am just happy that you got it to work!

Richard, What a gift this is. Installed beautifully. I so appreciate that you did it and made it available in such a easy to execute form!
How can I tag this tool so that it will come up when I search for commentaries on a specific passage. With book commentaries I insert something like [[@Bible:Ge]] at the beginning of the document and then the work is listed if I am looking for some passage in Genesis. I would be satisfied if it came up anytime I searched for any passage and then I would use the TOC to find my target. I do not have the ability to tag it for each individual passage. Any suggestions?
I am amazed at how many suggestions for additional study this brings to my attention. Quite valuable!
It used to do this, and show up in the passage guide, but at some point all the milestones like [[@Bible:Ge]] got lost. I don't know how, maybe when Word creashed once and I had to reconstruct the file, I forgot to put in those milestones. So you can put them in your copy in the meantime, and I will put them in my file as well, so that they will appear next them I publish an update to the file.

Well I am not complaining. I was amazed how many items it pointed out that I never would have thought to look at.
I am curious. Is there a utility you use to put those milestones in or do you just do it manually? I see these huge commentary series people tag and wonder "how in the world"?
It would no doubt be possible to write a Word macro to do, but I will just do it manually. Probably take less time for me rather than working out how to write the macro.

Hey Richard, here's a helpful post from Robert Warren, on how to put the milestones into the macro. (It's toward the bottom of the page)
Another update to the file. There are a few new books in the index, but the main change is the addition of milestones (one for each chapter) to the file, both in the main DOCX file and in the personalised indexed of your books that you can create. This means that the book (My) Index Bible Studies will show up in the Passage Guide and other places in Logos. Just make sure you set the type to Bible Commentary when you make the personal book. Other instructions are in the previous messages of this thread.

Yes, this is quite an impressive achievement. I really helps you utilize resources you would never think of . . . and even if you did think of them, this streamlines the process of finding the relevant portion. You are so kind to share it, Richard.
I have tried to run the application program to Index my Bible resources. I wanted a new copy since I upgraded to a larger library and to Logos 7.
Getting "Unhandled Exceptions has occurred in your application" telling me that Logos is not running when it is actually up and running. Tried stopping and restarting Logos. Same exceptions and message saying Logos is not running.
Has the program been run on any Logos 7 libraries yet?

It doesn't matter if there are Logos 7 libraries: once they are in Logos they are just books regardless of where they came from. What could make a difference is having the Logos 7 program running rather than Logos 6, if there were changes made in how Logos allows other programs to access its data. But I just tried on my computer with Logos 7, and my program ran without problems. Is there any extra information in the window about the Unhandled Exception? Often there is more data that helps to find the problem.

Lane: Could you click the "Details" button in the error windows, and write or show with a screen shot what is written there? It may help. But basically Logos has not registered itself with Windows in the correct way. There are ways to try to make it register itself (which it should do when it is installed), but first I want to check the details before trying that.

Open a command line window (for example with the Windows key+R, searching for the program cmd from the Start Menu, or in other ways, depending on your version of Windows - if you have trouble let me know writing what Windows version you have) and in that window type and execute the command

putting the user name of Windows instead the angled brackets. That should fix any problems with the registration of Logos with Windows. Maybe it will fix the problem with my program as well.

Could it be because I have the entire program installed to an SSD? The path is:
G:\Logos\Logos.exe

If the program was copied there rather than being installed there (that is likely, since I don't think Logos gives you an option to change the directory during the installation), then it is certainly the reason. My program can not find Logos, because it was not registered with Windows during the installation. You could try the command
regsvr32 G:\Logos\Logos.exe
to see if that registers Logos with Windows properly.
