MacArthur Sermon Index
I have created a personal book consisting of a list of all of John MacArthur's sermons, as posted at gty.org, which I offer here to those interested.
Each sermon is milestoned by scripture reference and sermon title, and has links to gty.org for both transcript and audio. The list is sorted by date. I milestoned the year as a headword, hoping that would enable jumping to a year by typing a reference. This doesn't seem to work, even though the same tactic did work when I made a PB of Spurgeon's sermons. If any fellow nerds are interested in how I copied, pasted, and parsed the GTY lists, let me know and I'll bore you with the Excel file.
I don't think this post interferes with marketing the JFM sermon archive, since it is just a pointer to outside resources and not an attempted substitute. In fact, it might even promote it.

If you want to see it in a passage guide, i think you should specify "Bible Commentary"

For a slightly different format that contains all the sermons in the personal book, Mark Barnes created a MacArthur Personal Book that is substantial - contains all the sermons 1969-20914 pus about 65 undated sermons. You can see the thread where it was conceived, and get the resource here:
https://community.logos.com/forums/t/80179.aspx
I took the 4 files and built one personal book out of it, which Logos supports in its Personal Book builder.

Mark's always way ahead of the rest of us.
I hadn't seen that. I did a Google search on the site to see if something similar had already been done, but it didn't return that thread. Sadly, it appears that Mark isn't going to widely distribute his implementation. But he's probably doing the right thing.

I am glad that you did this. I have the Logos MacArthur Sermon Archive, but his index is awesome because of how quick it lets you get to the audio files at GTY. Thanks

Gerald: Happy to help.
Have you seen this post on the thread about all the typos?

Hi Robert,
I was curious if you plan on updating this for 2015? I emailed Mark but I haven't heard back from him yet

Hi Matillo:
Yes, I should. I kind of forgot, so thanks for the reminder. Now all I have to do is remember how I did it. [*-)]
I will attempt to do it soon, so stay tuned.

Here's the original file with a couple of fixes: Corrected a couple of dates and deleted the headword tags on the titles and years, which didn't work (tribute to not knowing what I'm doing).
Here's also a second volume which picks up where the first left off and ends at last week.

Is there any way to get this to show up in the Sermons section?
Or maybe reorganize it so that it is sorted by reference instead of date? That way when you search a certain passage you will see all the sermons related to that passage.

See TIP of the day: Don't wait for Logos ... DIY sermon labeling

Hi Philip:
Let me chew on this a bit. I can probably do something like what I did with the S. Lewis Johnson Index (which was eventually superseded by the full text verson), since I have the data in Excel and can run though it and re-create the Word piece with the special sermon tag-table. I'll try to do something this weekend in between my wild social life.

That would be much appreciated Robert! I cannot remember if I ever thanked you for updating the sermon index (vol 2) but thank you sir. All updates are much appreciated

Here is the index re-done with sermon tagging/indexing. Compile as type Monograph. Passage Guide will have them in Sermon section (if applicable). The document itself is in chronological order. If you're new to the concept of a personal book with sermon tagging, be sure to check the very bottom of the TOC for the Index sections.
I also updated it through 12/11/2016 11/12/2016 week before last.
Philip & Mattillo: As always, you are most welcome.

Thanks so much for this file!!
I am also interested in you "boring me" with the excel file! Did you individually add all these links?
What about the Spurgeon's sermon file. i will look for it later.
ALSO you mention: If you want to see it in a passage guide, i think you should specify "Bible Commentary" 12/20/14 forum. I would be interested in finding out all the different ways to document this in Logos. Why is this different? Do you have a link to the specifications. (I don't know the technical names for this stuff or even know where to look)
Impressed! Thanks, Mike

OK, get out your hanky, here's a link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f1up8erkbqy6fzj/Revised%20MacArthur%20Sermon%20Index.xlsb?dl=0 The first sheet has notes/instructions, in case one wants to try to apply the techniques to another ministry's site. I'm certain there are better ways to harvest web info, but I have a hammer and everything looks like a nail.
OMykeO said:What about the Spurgeon's sermon file.
Spurgeon is a different issue. The file I made from the CCEL PDFs consists of the full-text of the sermons, compared to the JFM file here, which is just a pointer to web resources. It would be construed as competing with Logos' superior edition, using their forum. I am, however, easy to track down via another medium.

The original JFM file posted here was designed to be compiled as a Bible Commentary and as such would appear in the Commentary section of a Passage Guide. This was mainly due to me not knowing much. This most recent file is re-worked to use the specialized sermon tagging; the entries will appear in an applicable Passage Guide in the Sermon section, and has the Index section at the end of the resource.
The Logos WIki has details about the sermon tagging here: https://wiki.logos.com/Sermon_and_Illustration_Support and here: https://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books (near the bottom).
Enjoy!

I have fixed a few nonsensical topic words that I came across. The good thing about Find & Replace is that it does exactly what you tell it. The bad thing about Find & Replace is that it does exactly what you tell it.
This link is the same as the one above, just updated.

I have just noticed that GTY has revamped how sermons are presented on their website. This has caused the Text links on the index to assume room temperature. The direct Audio links still work (for now). Now the audio widget and the sermon text are on the same page. I will need to revamp the URL scheme for the Text links to use a Google search (which is better anyway, as it tends to be dynamic). I am recovering from a nasty broken ankle, so when I get where I can do extensive things, and I've caught up with work, I'll spend some time getting this functional again. The Dropbox link won't change and I'll notify here when done.

I have fixed this. The Dropbox link is below and the link from Dec-2016 should also be fixed.
The Text links will lead to a Google search with the sermon title and the GTY ID#. Two or three hits should display. Choose the one with "www.gty.org/library" or "www.gty.org/resources" in the path. The others will be to product links.
