Linux version of Logos Bible Software

John, I had numerous times in the last couple of weeks when Logos would download hundreds of megabytes and even gigabytes of resources -- often a couple thousand or more at a time -- after I had successfully set up Logos 10 and downloaded and indexed all my resources.

Was it linked to an update or no? If it was linked to updates we know about that and if you run off proton I believe it won't happen. I'm trying to isolate the patch but its a busy period up till Christmas now. If it is happening without software updates, I'd love a log file from your terminal output if you have it?

I have noticed that only after a software update. It was a big download! However, almost everything else is running much better for Logos 10 than 9 for me. Much faster too.

Bill,
Before allowing the resources to download - try exiting Logos and restarting it - a few times if necessary. There has been an odd glitch that has Logos requesting to download resources, though the resources are actually present in the Resources folder.
If the resources are not present, you may be seeing something new - unless it is tied to an application update, as John mentioned.

This is where I need some clarity because I've never seen this. I need to know under which conditions it happens? What version of wine etc.

I had been using the 10.0.1 appimage with 7.21 staging, I believe.
The largest download may have been in conjunction with an app update, I can't remember.
But for now, I'm back to Logos 9 because it runs better in my container.
Thanks again, John and Frank, for your work. I listen in on Telegram to the chatter that is going on.
I do have room enough on my Chromebook to add another container and I can try to put Logos 10 back on that for testing purposes. But recently whenever I tried to install it using the appimage, Logos says it installed but then it threw me back out to the wine control center. I don't know how to get past that.

Bill, the wine controller issue was fixed with script version 10.0-3. Try with the latest script version.
The output that says Logos is installed should be better understood as "Script completed." We aren't performing a final check in the script to verify Logos is actually installed.

I wonder if we could? We could at least check for a Logos.exe? What do you think?

We would need to check that a few files exist, but it should be an easy fix. I'll make a git issue.

I installed Logos 10 through the Ferion11 script using the version of wine that downloads with the script (not pre-installed), and it's working, but I'm having some issues with the floating dialogs. In particular, whenever I open the Layouts panel or the Documents panel, it opens the first time but then instantly closes all subsequent times. It works to drag and drop the Documents icon into a tab on Logos so that it's not floating, but I can't do that with the Layouts button.
I'm on KDE Manjaro, if that helps.

Unfortunately this is a known bug. Double click and they will stay. I hope we will have a fix soon.

Thanks for all you are doing to get Logos working for us in Linux! I want to install Logos 10 in a the latest MINT, and have bought the least expensive version of the upgrade, and have your install_Logos10_download.sh script. I already have WINE 8.x development installed then noticed on WINEHQ that there's a problem with ver 8, and that you are saying here it should be WINE staging 7.18. Do I need to uninstall WINE 8 and then install WINE 7.18? Or go with the appimage staging? Which would be better in the long run?
Thanks again! I haven't used Windows for years, and greatly appreciate getting Logos into Linux. FYI, last week I tried Lubuntu 22.04 and used the ferion script to install Logos 9, and my Hebrew video course was working perfectly in Linux! But then I installed and set up something else and after the next reboot, I lost that feature. So I know it's going to work properly someday. I uninstalled Lubuntu after deciding that they were not maintaining it diligently enough.

No need to answer my post just before this one. I installed the WINE 7.18 staging. Thanks again!

I've shared this on the Telegram group, but wanted to post here as well.
I've been trying to dig a little into the Data Loss we have been facing with each application update.I was running Kubuntu for years with the ext4 file system and with each Logos application update the Data was wiped.
I recently changed over to Opensuse Tumbleweed with the btrfs file system setup - I have been able to see the Logos program update download and update without any issue at all.
Via the Telegram Group, we have successful updating with Opensuse, Arch and Fedora based distros running the btrfs file system.
Is there anyone that follows this thread that is running an *ubuntu based distro with the btrfs file system that can test program updates? Or that would be willing to run a test by installing a Ubuntu based distro using the btrfs file system. If this is for some reason an issue with updating on ext4 file systems - it may be a big step in pointing toward a fix for the devs.

Another progress update:
As of Wine 8.0 RC4 the issue with the images on the Homepage and within the Media Browser appear to have been fixed. Images are now present.I've noticed that the exe installer is once again functional, I haven't seen a crash with it (awaiting further confirmation)
I tested Logos 23 Beta 1 and found that something has changed with this update that now leads to crashes when an Audio resource or video resource is opened. Logos 22 still allows audio resources to play without issue and video resources to play the audio with no video at this time.
Issues still remaining:
Data Loss with application updates - watching currently the difference between ext4 and btrfs file systems (btrfs seems to minimize or not experience data loss)Printing still works when the OS is set to Win 7, on Win 10 clicking Print does nothing
Menu bug - work around is still there with changing the Window Manager setting in winecfg
Read Aloud - still starts without audio and will speed scroll through an entire resource to the end.
Video resources play audio only (See note above about new issue if using the Logos 23 Beta - waiting to see if coming Beta releases may fix the issue prior to public release)
***Please add any others that I may have missed

After running LogosLinuxInstaller.sh it reached the point of Welcome to Logos Bible Software Setup.
I then received the message The Microsoft .NET Framwork version 4.7.2 is not installed on this computer.
Please run LogosSetup.exe to Install the .Net Framework. I have use the LogosLinuxInstaller.sh on other computers with no problems.
I think the script is to install .NET 6 , any help would be appreciated.

Can you confirm if you are running the latest version of the script to install Logos 10 or 22? I would only expect an issue like this if you were installing Logos 9?
