    Hi,

I just tried to install Logos 10 with the latest Ferion script (https://github.com/ferion11/LogosLinuxInstaller/blob/master/LogosLinuxInstaller.sh). I got to step 20, clicked Finish, and got:

The installation was cancelled because of error downloading the file!
     * Launcher-Template.sh
      - WGET_RETURN: 8

Search of this forum thread says I should update to the latest script. I'm pretty sure I used it... Any other suggestions?

I haven't tested it since the update 16 hrs ago but that does look right. If the script is fixed then running ./LogosLinuxInstaller.sh -r should create the scripts without doing a full reinstall.

Sorry to say, John, that didn't work... Here's the result:

Please use this latest script: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ferion11/LogosLinuxInstaller/master/LogosLinuxInstaller.sh

I've updated and tested it this evening. It is newer than the latest release. Apologies that the release had bugs.

Thanks for the updated script, John! I'm closer -- maybe...? But still not there. :-\ [I still have Logos 9 running, so I'm not desperate. It would be kind of neat to have a look at Logos 10, though.]

I didn't get an error when I clicked "Finish" on the 'Logos 10 for Windows' installation window. So that's good! I clicked 'Yes' to a few things after that, and finally on the window that asked if I wanted to run Logos 10 (and restart if it errors out the first time). I waited and waited, and nothing...

I went to the terminal, got to the /LogosBible10 folder, and tried to run: ./Logos.sh. Wait, wait, wait, and nothing. I ran the only other thing in the folder: ./controlPanel.sh, and that opens a Wine Control Panel window with Add/Remove..., Game Controllers, and Internet Settings. Nothing looked promising there. I logged out and back in to my user account, but that didn't change anything when I ran ./Logos.sh.

I'm not sure what to try next. I saved the output from the terminal when it installed, if that might help with troubleshooting. For what it's worth, it ended like this:

    Paul,

Try running from your install directory:

    /home/paul/LogosBible10/Logos.sh --remove-library-catalog

Then try running Logos again from your install directory:

    /home/paul/LogosBible10/Logos.sh

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks for that, Taylor. I tried running both commands, but Logos still doesn't start. I don't know if there was supposed to be any terminal output from the first command, but there was nothing... (I had to type ./ in front of Logos.sh [etc.], for the terminal not to throw some kind of error ['command not found', or 'no such file or directory'])

I've been trying to install Logos on my Chromebook using debain, but have been having an issue that nobody else seems to have run into yet that I have been able to find.

I can get as far as selecting the wine binary's path and then get this message:

I can't find a package by that name. Does anyone have any pointers?

    Thanks

    Thomas,

I am running Debian in a Crostini container on my Chromebook too and had to install fuse to satisfy this dependency. I believe I did sudo apt install fuse. Did you also install cabextract and windbind? Open your Linux terminal and type: sudo apt install fuse cabextract winbind.

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I had installed all those packages and was still getting this message. I'm now trying to set up my Chromebook to use a ubuntu container instead of Debian and see if that works.

    Thanks again,

    Thomas

    Thomas,

I have both Logos 9 and 10 running in separate Debian containers on my Chromebook right now. Logos 9 is more responsive than Logos 10 and I have a powerful Chromebook. I also tried using Ubuntu and have had success but it introduces other issues, such as the cursor becoming small. Using the script on Ubuntu will require the same dependencies, although I believe zenity was already installed. For me it I have to install x11-apps, cabextract, winbind, lsof, and fuse IIRC.

I know the script has been updated lately. Maybe there are some issue with it. I haven't tried that script, but maybe that's a weekend project.

    Bill,

Thanks. I tried with an older version of the script and was able to get Logos 10 to install through that on a debian container, so I think you're right, it must be the latest update.

For some reason I've been having more trouble getting Logos 9 to install though. Getting this message over and over in terminal:

    "0334:err:ole:ifproxy_release_public_refs IRemUnknown_RemRelease failed with error 0x800706be"

    Thomas,

I suggest that you try to link up with the Devs in the Telegram channel they have set up to discuss Logos on Linux using Wine. I don't have the link, but if you go back in this thread a few pages I think you will find it. They are very responsive there.

If your wine version is 8.0, try updating to 8.2. There are problems with 8.0.

Could someone post a link or a version number for the last known working script? That'd be a huge help (I think)!

  • John Goodman
John Goodman Member Posts: 1,707 ✭✭✭

Paul the last known working version of the installer is the current version. Note most of us use ubuntu or kubuntu so sometimes with other distributions such as arch there can be problems we don't anticipate. It's not easy to support you without more information. What is your linux distribution? Which version? Did you choose to install with local wine or the appImage? N.b. the appImage is a good choice if you are uncertain. It is easier to support on Telegram and as volunteers it fits around our other work commitments.
