Logos announced in several threads that they didn't make one Minimal Crossgarde (like with L3 => L4 ) but two, the one with everything in it plus some useful resources - dynamically priced to allow the upgraders to Starter or Bronze to add all features in a meaningful way, the other (called "core datasets") for most of the the new functionality/datasets and definitely below the $100: http://www.logos.com/product/28494/logos-5-core-datasets This may be the one you are looking for.

Thanks, Bob, for enduring the slings and arrows, for managing through the chaos, and for giving us a glimpse of the Company's chaos. May all this settle down a bit so that you can sense the thanksgiving felt by many of us. (For the myriads of you outside the States, next Thursday is our "Thanksgiving Day.)
I'm about to order the Minimal Crossgrade for which I've been waiting less than patiently, but not grumpily (I hope!).

I don't mind upgrading to a better package if I get commentaries that I will enjoy (but I just don't know I need), but I'm not interested in Greek language items, etc. Searching for all references to Timothy including pronouns would be a great feature though!
So I'm wondering if I should wait for the free functionality upgrade, bite the bullet on a Silver to get the new functionality, or get the Minimal Crossgrade at a price $60 higher than we've been discussing here for a while... thoughts?
Everyone has a different price when they do the crossgrade. My price was about $50 less, but I had L4 Platinum and different other books that I have purchased. Since you had only the Leaders Library yours would be more expensive. Or you can check out the link below to the datasets.

Thanks for the clear explanation Bob. I will be moving from Logos 4 Silver to Logos 5 Silver and then will save to move to the Gold. Keep moving onward and upward.

OK... this is beginning to make more sense. I've read the other threads too, and it looks like the Starter has more resources available to me, but the MC has the datasets for the new searching functionality. That interests me more than the new books. Some of the commentaries would be nice, but I certainly haven't read all the ones I have! Thanks to all for the links and the explanations.

Don't forget, you /can/ get both. It'll be cheaper for you to get Starter first, then get the Crossgrade to fill in the remaining datasets, since you'll only pay for the resource you don't have and you'll get a better initial discount for upgrading to Starter.

Just wanted y'all to know (I know I'm Southern on both counts from Southern India and living in South Carolina) that I have upgraded to Logos 5 and it is the sweetest thing. I love the new features of L5 and this is a product incredibly done. I had a great time to share this with a number of families this past weekend and encouraged them to buy Logos Bible Software if they are serious about family discipleship. Maybe I should ask to be become a rep for Logos. Just a thought.

Hi Naveen,
Great to see another South Indian on Logos, though I am now in Canada, so I am Northern on one count.
Blessings in Christ,

Logos has said that it will be out sometime during the first quarter of next year. So those of us who are waiting, we still have around two months to wait (IMHO).

Very pleased to install the Logos 5 engine only upgrade for Mac, and already seeing it is a vast improvement and a world of difference from Logos 4, both in terms of layout and speed.
I understand Logos' strategy of making upgrade packages available at first, and I can see how this is very valuable for many, but not all. I appreciate you guys making the engine only available, as I need access to the resources I have purchased but not necessarily the newer more advanced features.
Blessings,

Bob, thanks for the free Logos 5 engine. Performance is way better and I got some cool new toys to play with.
I appreciate the improvements you make over time and that you bless your "old" customers with some new ways to study even at times when our finances keep us from supporting the product as much as we'd like to.

Bob:
I know that I am a bit late to this party. I have Logos 4 Leader's Library. I have had it since it first was available as an alpha on the Mac. My experience was unfortunately less than stellar. I had a lot of issues with crashes and stalls long after the official Gold Master release of L4 on the Mac. So much so that I gave up on it for more than a year and half because I couldn't rely on it during my classes.
Recently a friend from the forums made me aware of Logos 5 and all the improvements that have been made. So I uninstalled and reinstalled my library with the Logos 5 engine. I must say I am impressed with the difference. It works so well now and the mobile app has come a long way as well.
Over the last 10 days or so I have been using my L4 Library/L5 engine to do a lot of study and using the mobile app on the iPad when I am work. I am really enjoying. (This is what I was expecting when I bought L4).
My issue now is that I want to upgrade so I can get things like the timeline, sermon starter, etc. I don't have a need for many more resources. So the minimal crossgrade seems like a win - win for me. However my custom pricing is $155 for the minimal crossgrade? According to your post here it should be under $100 or if there would be 2 crossgrades one for under $100 and one slightly over but I don't see it.
Also It appears(though I am aware it is not) the starter bundle would include the minimal crossgrade datasets.
Could you please clarify the pricing from what is listed in this post to what I am seeing?

In Bob's updated post - http://community.logos.com/forums/p/58259/414636.aspx#414636 - he talked about the higher price being "somewhere over $100, depending on what you already own". if I remember correctly, this ended up being around $155 for most people.

There is a discussion of this at http://community.logos.com/forums/p/59775/425408.aspx. And the wiki article at http://wiki.logos.com/Upgrade_or_Crossgrade is helpful in explaining what is provided what what option.

http://blog.logos.com/2012/11/5-ways-to-move-to-logos-5/ is where Logos outlined the different ways of moving to Logos 5
Does this help at all?

Regular price is $ 79.95 => http://www.logos.com/product/28494/logos-5-core-datasets
If purchase Logos 5 Core Datasets, then dynamic upgrade price for => http://www.logos.com/product/28376/logos-5-minimal-crossgrade reduces from regular price of $ 159.95 to under $ 100.
One friend upgraded from Logos 4 Platinum to Logos 5 Silver, followed by $ 6.14 for Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade.
Caveat: larger bundle purchase has smaller price per resource.

My upgrade path started way back in L2! I had been given a copy a long time ago, and for some reason it didn't ever click with me. Perhaps it was the L2 format, or just the resources... Either way, I had to use L3 so that I could cite journals at my bible college and despised it. The set up was one computer, scores of users (a practice no longer employed).
L4 was just reaching the end of its product life cycle and a professor at seminary introduced me to L4.
I was hooked and purchased L4 Scholars Silver. Then within a couple of weeks L5 came out. Chaos... Do I keep L4, do I call and ask for L5 instead? Did I get stuck with the OLD model, when I should really have been told to wait a week and buy the new model? The forums helped me understand what was going on, and I eventually purchased L5 Bronze, which I later canceled opting for Silver, and recently upgraded to Platinum.
So my upgrade path has been L2 Level 3 -> L4 Silver -> L5 Platinum. With a goodly number of third party L3 packages added on, and scores of CP books.
I guess my point is you may feel like you have enough digital books now... but give it time, and as you get used to the software its value will grow in your estimation. Then you might find your self looking to replace your print books... At that point, the large packages are a good option...
It cost me less to go from L4 silver -> L5 platinum than it would have cost to buy just the parts of Platinum that I wanted.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

I don't care about the minimal crossgrade and have decided not to get any minimal crossgrade in L6 either. I bought Logos the first time some 11-12 years ago. At the moment I'm unable to track what it was but I will look into it perhaps this weekend.
I started hanging out on Logos User Forums (mostly General) in March 2012, and got hooked sometime in April and bought the L4 Original Languages Library base packages together with a few resources among which I'll mention Hermeneia Upgrade (3 vols.) on April 19. 2012.
Then I added an Anabaptist book and a Jn monograph a little later, and in the middle of the summer I returned Hermeneia Upgrade (3 vols.) and bought the whole Hermeneia/Continental set. I don't remember exactly, but some time before that set I started discussing much more and looking for products. For a couple of months I only spent a little bit of money, but from October 2012 until now I've been buying so much that I've made my girlfriend upset.
I did L5 upgrades, returned, upgraded again, return. So I'll let it remain unsaid what I have, but I might have Göttingen Septuagint (which I'll only be able to use after a while anyway), Gk tools, John Howard Yoder Collection (12 vols.) and various books (I'm too lazy to open up my Orders page right now to see, or the emails to a person who asked for guidance about which resources get used). Additionally I have things such as Accordance with UBS Translator's Handbook New Testament plus the end-of-2011 Oxford Encyclopedia of the Books of the Bible as printed matter. I'll just share with You that I'm VERY content with what I've found (although it has not always been cheap and I could perhaps spent a little less) and not finding much more to buy other than a few pre-pubs such as the Revised English Bible and New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible (5 vols.).I've been discussing on more and more of the Logos User Forums. After I'll receive my Nook HD 8 GB I'll put discernment in which books to download to it, and focus more on reading, and perhaps less on discussing on Logos User Forums. I have my two desktops and will try to highlight, make notes (and search). So I'll try to make up for the $$ spent.
Many years from now I will still be on a budget. I hope that I'll be able to get recent works little by little despite that limitation. Which reminds me of the thread and Faithlife group: Creating a budget and cancelling orders
If anyone cares to advice me (perhaps has some of those books), I have book questions in: Outdated and expensive ... left unanswered!
Right now I'm focusing on hardware and Microsoft questions for the next 1½ weeks: macros. Should I stick with Word 2010 or upgrade to 2013?
Returning to the subject, I heard that minimal crossgrade dynamic prices have gone up! Despite that I don't regret my reluctancy!

My question: What say does your girlfriend have in your finances?
The answer should be "none."

I'm out of luck what to say to her to calm her down. We don't live together or something like that, never had, she can't sleep that well in the same room as most people and she likes living on a central location whereas I like space (and also have more stuff, furniture and vehicles (mostly pedicabs)).
I've tried to explain to her for what I use, and especially will use, Logos. But it's like she doesn't follow and came with remarks that I need BDAG (only expensive resource she would approve I guess).

But as a girlfriend, why does she have input into your finances? Perhaps this is a cultural thing... Or perhaps your finances are intertwined. However this is not typical here in America until after the wedding, or at least after the engagement to be married. Unless and until my time, energy, and resources devoted to Logos impact my relationship with my girlfriend then she doesn't say a word.Unix said:I'm out of luck what to say to her to calm her down. However if I were to spend so much money that I needed to borrow some from her to make ends meet, or could not afford to pay for our dates (on a regular basis), or had not the time, or energy to devote to the relationship then I would hope she would speak up.
If she simply thinks its a waste, tell her mechanics need tools, hairdressers need scissors, expensive chairs, hair dryers and magazines on style. The tools of the pastorate (or your traditions equivalent) are books. Also I replied to your post RE Office 2010 vs 2013.

I doubt it's a matter of intertwined or cultural (over here many don't intertwine their finances even when married), just that we are both poor and have high expenses (she lives on a central location and has cable and nice walk-in wardrobe) and get stressed if either one has low funds. Sometimes I neglected cleaning my apartment when I sit studying and discussing too much - so that's what she has been pointing out:

To quote Bob Pritchett, . . . "Once the phone queue slows down, and once we aren't helping people who do want to upgrade to a larger collection at a great price, we will put theMinimal Crossgrade up for sale. Then, some time after we've taken care of people who want to purchase that affordable crossgrade, we will put the free engine online, and offer the same level of free, friendly, phone or email support we've been providing for two decades -- even to people who bought one package a decade ago and have never purchased anything since.
- Yes, but when? We're not sure, but it won't be a terribly long wait -- though it may feel that way if you've watched the Logos 5 videos! I know it's hard to wait when it looks (and is!) so cool....
You'll soon be able to move to the Logos 5 engine at no cost at all. You'll even have an option for adding the coolest new data sets at a very reasonable cost.
I'm so sorry we didn't make all of this clearer right from the start, and I hope you won't be offended by our "paying the bills" focus on selling the revenue-generating upgrade bundles for just a short while before we offer the low-cost and free alternatives.

Yes, they have. The crossgrade and Core Datasets came in December, and 5.0 free engine in January, if I remember correctly.
The 5.1 free engine this week at the same time for everyone: www.logos.com/installation
All basepackages are still the same first Edition since the release of 5 in the turn of the month October/November 2012,
but may be altered at some point before the release of 6:Bob Manuel said:My question . . . Has the minimal crossgrade came and/or the free Logos 5 engine come out yet?

Your question has already been answered by fellow forum users, but I wanted to say welcome to the forums! The forums are a great place to learn about things like the free L5 engine (which has been available for about 6 months now). Feel free to stop by more often to find answers and ask questions [:)]
