Logos, this is really getting OLD!!!!!
I love Logos. It has the be the best Bible software on the market. However, I have a very frustrating situation in using Logos recently. I have reported it and there has been no fix or suggestion. Every Time I open the software, the updates my Library. I have not added any new books or any thing and it still updates my books. And contrary to popular opinion, yo9u cannot use Logs while it is doing that. When I sit down to Logos I sit down to use, not sit and wait for it to update my library for NO reason. You know how many times I have wanted to drop Logos and go to accordance? It is because of this. Works fine and then come out with an update and then it breaks something else. Logos, please fix this is getting old.

I am sorry you experience this.
I do a lot of reading on my iPad and takes notes and on it, so when I open my laptop it is probably updating this. But contrary to you I can use Logos while it is doing this. My laptop is about three years old and I can work on it just fine.

Many (most?) updates to my library are not book downloads but dataset updates and resource updates for typos or tagging.

Hi Michael,
You last reported the problem here. On that thread, on 20th July a Faithlife member of staff made some suggestions (and said a fix might be forthcoming), but you haven't responded since. Did you miss this reply?

That used to be a frustration for me as well. However, since upgrading my computer to a SSD hard drive and upgrading to Logos 6 those problems have vanished for me. At the present I would hate to be without Logos 6. Based on my experience Logos does benefit from a fast processor and SSD or it may feel sluggish.
There is a way to have all updating done at night while you sleep. Under program settings find the heading Internet. You can choose to download at a time you will typically be asleep and let it update and index to its heart content.

This may be beating a dead horse, but was not sure if anyone has gone over options with you that I think will solve the issue. Please forgive me if this is old information that has not helped your particular situation.
I personally like to only download updates when it is convenient for me to do so. To accomplish this, you can go to the Program Settings menu. In the Internet section turn off "Automatically Download Updates."
When auto updates are turned off, when an update is ready it will simply show up in the ribbon across the top.
You can dismiss this ribbon and come back to it when you are ready by clicking on the blue circle and selecting "download updates."
I hope this helps improve your experience. If you already knew about this and are still not happy, is there something else that I am missing that could potentially help?

No, Mark I did not miss it. I should have replied, but I did not. I did follow the suggestion of Phil and it seemed to fix it. But the next time (and every time since) it has done it. I should have responded after I tried the suggestion but I, honestly, forgot and I thought that the problem was fixed. But it is not. And it is very frustrating. It seems like one step forward and two steps back when Logos comes out with an update. I am sacred to death to download Logos update, for fear that something is not going to work.

I do have my automatic updates set to "no" already and it is still doing it.

You're obviously experiencing a bug. Andrew has said that it might be fixed in the next version, and he said that only a couple of weeks ago. Realistically, that's the most you can hope for. Some indexing issues have been fixed in the beta, but I wouldn't recommend you install the beta at the moment, because it's a bit unstable.
In the meantime, a work around might be to minimise, rather than close Logos.

I have Windows 10, Intel i7 2.4 Ghz with 8GB Ram 64-bit. Is it safe to keep Logos open all the time even if you close he cover?

Another work around to think about in the mean time if you are not comfortable leaving the app open all the time, is to simply work offline when using Logos. To do this, you can go into the internet section in program setting and turn "Use Internet" to off.
You can also hold down the control button when launching the program. This will bring up the log-in screen. From there you can select "Work Offline." This enables you to stay connected on your machine, but Logos will operate as if it is not connected.
This will keep your machine from trying to download any additional updates. The only downside is that features that rely on the internet, e.g. Online Manuscript Database, will not work. Hopefully our support team can get this issue fixed for you quickly because this is definitely not normal behavior.

For what its worth, I'm seeing the same thing. I've got a fast SSD (Mac 10.10.5 on a 2013 MBP) and though it's not a show stopper for my workflow, every time Logos starts (6.4 SR-3), there is a "preparing library" lag. Sometimes there are new or updated books to index, but sometimes not. I'll always get a lag while "preparing library". We don't need more lags.

Yes, it is perfectly safe. This is what I do all the time. It is a great time saver. (Confession: I rarely shut down either my desktop at work or laptop at home, even though it costs some energy. Being able to get right to work saves me time which is worth some money to me.)

We discovered a problem where every startup the application would scan each file to determine whether or not it was out of date. For larger libraries this would take significant disk activity, and could lead to seeing the notification for a few minutes on startup. There was a long standing bug that lead to this occurring on every startup, and could have been triggered by situations such as having a rental or subscription expire (such as Logos Now or Cloud). This was fixed in a recent beta, and will be available soon when the regular release becomes available.
I feel fairly confident that this is the cause of the problem you were seeing, so I'm hopeful that the situation improves when the new version comes out (the first time starting up with the new version will have the same issue, but after that it should be improved).

This is very safe. I leave Logos running almost every day and just close my laptop lid and when I open it logos is running just as I left it. My desktop reacts the same when it awakened from hibernation.

This should be fixed in 6.6.
When is 6.6 coming out?

Did I miss it, because I didn't see anything in the release notes that said that the "building Library Index" on every start up is fixed like I was told it would be.

Sometimes the Release Notes do not list every bug fix. Try the app to see if the problem is fixed.

I replied to your post in the main 6.6 release thread, but this is the release note. Sorry if the wording wasn't clear.
