Family Sub-User Accounts
I have a beautiful wife and two great kids (7 and 3), I would love for them to use Logos too but in their own way.
It would be great if the application allowed sub-users, maybe 5 for each master account so Kids etc can use logos and have their own set of notes and layouts etc without accidentally deleting mine
.Apple and Microsoft have similar features to this.

Two requests regarding transliteration of foreign language text to enhance the usability of the program and resources for those who don't know Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, Arabic, etc.
- Add a Program Settings option to always transliterate Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic/Syriac words when copying to the clipboard. This would run the foreign language text through the Text Converter tool before it puts it on the clipboard. It can be done now by copying and pasting into the Text Converter tool, but this would but out a step.
- Add a Program Settings option to display foreign language words in transliteration on the menus and possibly in the resources.
The first is more important, but the other would be helpful to many, I am sure.

Maybe also an opposite option is needed: to hide transliteration/transcription if the resource has both.
Even better if it could reverse transliterate the text to the original script, if the text has the transliteration/transcription only. May need some artificial and original intelligence, but could be an interesting project.[H]

can we have "sort by verses" in search queries?
For example, I have 4 books by a certain author, I want to see all his comments on the book of Isaiah. Search yields over 600 verses he references across his works. There seems no way to order the chapters and verses from the resultant search. Here's a thread where we talk about it in more detail.

I would like a visual filter for diacritical markings, as my Cambridge Bibles have in them to aid pronunciation of names.
Sometimes when I make a note, I will have two markings for the same note in the resource where the note is made. This has never been resolved for me. https://community.logos.com/forums/p/105069/726708.aspx#726708

Searching in Logos sucks!!!!! So much easier to do a Google Search and then come back to Logos, why can't your simply make a search intelligent???

I agree that sometimes it is simpler to use Google... but there is a reason why google is google and no one else is.

Please provide search examples; would like to try replicating Google searches in Logos. Annoying searches would be appreciated (to show what intelligent search is desired).
Caveat: Logos search can be better targeted than Google. Thankful for Logos search assistant that offers many suggestions (albeit can dream of customization since lack desire for all suggestions: e.g. for Word search, usually lack interest in more words while lemmas and roots are often interesting).

I would very much like the sermon editor greatly improved. There is hardly any formatting that can be done in it. It basically serves as a way to only create title slides. Because of this, I never use it.

That is a good stopgap measure, but it should be built in already. On a side note: Make sure to quote who you are responding to! Better, quote the specific part of the post you are addressing. For example:

Concur Personal Books can provide resource section markers. Logos wiki => >Prioritizing Books includes link to thread => Tip: how to add headings in your Priority list (posted by Steve Clark on 4 Sep 2012)
Caveat: resources can have a variety of indexed data types. For example, the New Living Translation Bible has Bible Verse Finder with English Headwords:
Dictionaries also have English headword indexing. The effect of prioritizing NLT in Bible section (above Dictionaries) appears when search for English definition of Accountability, which opens NLT Bible Verse Finder (instead of highest prioritized Dictionary). Thankful for advanced prioritization that allows NLT prioritization of Bible indexing with Bibles while English Headword Indexing is prioritized lower.
Another Bible opportunity is cross references in a Bible that shows in highest prioritized Bible. Personally have many advanced Bible prioritizations so a cross reference in NKJV shows NKJV verse(s).
Can dream about prioritization groupings by Resource Type with Data Type filtering: e.g. Bible section for Bible indexing; Commentary section for Bible indexing; Lexicons with Greek Headword indexing; Lexicons with Hebrew Headword indexing; Lexicons with Strong's Number indexing. By way of example, DBL Greek lexicon has five datatype indexes.
If a resource does not have data type for that filtered section, dragging should cause cursor change to 🚫that shows lack of data type. Considering number of indexed data types, would be OK with a section for all other datatypes (similar to current prioritization).

Yes I am aware of this, but this content that is marked for the speaker does not show up on the slide. Correct? For me to be able to use the sermon editor, I need to be able to have a list of bullets. Our basic search reflects a different era, when searches were precise and searchers (often) knew boolean logic... Google has taught us all to just 'ask the Internet', and we need to adapt, while keeping our specialized capabilities for the scenarios where they make sense. (Google can't find cultural concepts or words by morphology...)
One of the biggest changes is how Google / the web have caused people to become more tolerant of false-positives, used to never looking at/working with all the results, and okay with results that don't contain any of the terms but are still 'correct'. (Of course these are things that often make Google a terrible solution for scholarly work, like, say, writing a grammar... where you want to find exactly the thing you searched for, and nothing else.)
I'd love to hear some specific suggestions on what queries you like at Google / don't like in Logos, and how you'd like us to change things.

Hi Bob,
I think it would be good to have an additional "Quick Search" feature that could mimic Google-style results, maybe a development of the Fuzzy search where result come up with the caveat that a different search algorithm has been used so expect false positives after the first few results.
If Natual Linguistic Programming is included (basic AI) the "Quick Seach" would get used to the way we search and even our typos.
Another path may be to use some sort of API to quickly search on the internet via Logos if that's what people want, but I really think we want to search our libraries so the former would be preferable.

Most of the time I use Google I'm either delighted because it's corrected my lousy spelling (yay for artificial intelligence), or cursing that I have to manually but it in Verbatim mode because it thinks it knows what I want (boo to artificial intelligence).
The lesson is that AI is incredibly hard, and I personally don't want Logos trying to do that. (If Apple can't pull it off with Siri, Faithlife won't be able to.) What I think we need for search to be improved is simple to explain, if harder to implement:
- A much improved ranking algorithm. The current one (number of hits/article length) is much too basic.
- Spelling correction suggestions.
- A visual indicator when Logos can't understand our keywords.
- Proximity keywords to span verse/article boundaries.
- Optionally, automatic synonym/alternative spellings search.

6. A cleaner UI results page, both esthetically (more google like) and in what shows up in the results. Yes, please. The fact that people expect that, and need to periodically ask why results aren't returning certain verses is a problem.
Forcing people to know/remember search nuances, or adapt to the program's behavior instead of searching how we naturally expect (e.g., Bible instead of Basic), is just unintuitive.

Morris proctor posted a blog recently showing how to search for NEAR things within chapters not just verses. it was, as always, an e blog. But also kind of a failure of the program that the blog post was necessary.
in some cases it is now accepted that the chapter division comes in the “wrong place” so being able to do searches like NEAR regardless of chapter divisions would be great. for academic research you could almost say it’s crucial.

Absolutely. For most searches, the boundary that counts is the sentence or the clause. In this sense, Logos has not yet caught up to competition, such as Accordance and Bible Works. This is one reason I still use the old Windows 3.1 version of Gramcord for many searches.

I hope Logos will never lose its search precision in an effort to make Google-like searches. I constantly get frustrated by Google when it presents results that I have no interest in and don't even have all of my search terms. It should be possible to choose whether you want a fuzzy search or a precise search.

Add "Open All Passages" to the context menu.
Use Case:
Occasionally I want to read through a number of Biblical references in a single go. I want to filter my Bible to only the selected references since they are disconnected, and can range from a single verse to a few chapters. When more than 2 or 3 verses are referenced it becomes incredibly cumbersome to try to keep track of where to STOP reading (and go click the next reference).
Currently Possible:
1) Select a block of text
2) Right click
3) Select "Save As Passage List" (if the text contains Bible references)
4) Click on "Open All" in the Passage List (which thankfully opened automatically)
5+) Delete the Passage List from Documents (this can be done without removing the filter)
Proposition:
I'd like to see steps 3 (and consequently 5+) eliminated. This would allow the filtering desired without unnecessary document creation. See the mockup of the context menu below. You can also see the achieved filtering in the screenshot. I suppose the "Filter by ...." (green highlight) would have a different name, but that is inconsequential to me.

One of the most baffling exclusions from Logos from v4 onwards is the death of the exact() operator. It used to be much simpler to compile search queries with a mixture of terms, some literal and some stemmed.
Yes I know that wildcards can be used but the exact operator was a much better way of doing this.

Something I would like to see is the print/export function to encompasses multi-view resource setup- see example below. I usually do not use notes while speaking and having the text before as I have studied it is very helpful.

Specialized search example is Milestone in contextual menu. Thread => BUG we've been trying to get acknowledged since Sept 1 discussion includes finding other Lectionary references. Finding Milestones for various datatypes would be useful.

Let me start by stating I am not a highly educated person. I have never attended college, in fact I barely made it out of high school. So, IF it is possible to teach me to be proficient in using the advanced searching functions in Logos, it will be a breeze for everyone else.
I do not have the answer for making the current system easier to use. All I can do is try to explain some of the issues I have or see others having with the current way of doing advanced searches. Hopefully this will help the experts make it a tool that everyone can really enjoy and take advantage of. The forums are filled with questions of "How do I' regarding searches. Thanks to all the helpful experts on the forums that are able to answer these questions. However, the shear number of those who ask these kinds of questions is an indicator that I am not the only one that does not understand the process.
I have tried to use the “Help’ menu, the drop-down menus in search, the “Wiki” pages, Logos Pros, Morris Proctor’s videos (I have them all), as well as other resources outside of Logos to learn how to search. All use examples to teach searching. The problem with these for me is they just show complex examples of a search the trainer wants to show. They don’t show me how to construct a search for myself on something different that I will want to find later. In other words, they do not explain the meaning, and purpose of the search elements (examples; ()<>{} Milestone, “,” : “ or a space, etc.), what they contribute to the search or when and why I need to use them and when not to use them (I don’t understand why we need all of these to begin with, but that’s how it is), when trying to make up my own search. Last night I spent over an hour trying to construct a search that would find and highlight all the instances` of God (the father) including all the pronouns HE, His, Him, etc. and not Christ or Jesus or the pronouns, in Ephesians 1. This should be simple, but I wasn’t able to make it happen.
I know this shows my ignorance, but I am, and I don’t like it. I’ll even add to my embarrassment by saying I have had and used Logos since the end of the “Libby” era. The closest example of helpful teaching on this subject is the video training “Verbum Advanced Search Training” which I really appreciated, because it slowed down the explanations and it explained somewhat what happens when adding or removing certain elements to the search. This helped define what the elements did in the search. Kudos to Devin and Andrew! However, this video didn’t go far enough in covering all the elements and their variables.
Maybe a more in depth, plain language (non-technical jargon) manual or video training would help.

When I try to even come close to writing about this frustration that you have so ably expressed, something shuts down inside, and I cannot say what I want, the way I want.
So in Logos, I read, I highlight. I reread important books, keeping some to the right of the Command Box.
