The "poke" I felt was not from the publishing of works outside Protestant authorship; it was the tone of Bob's posting and his unfair generalization of Protestants. Like I said, I'l let this bit of impulsive humanity roll off like water over a duck's back.
We're good. I know Bob. I know what Logos is all about. I support having the widest possible range of research available, and dream of the day I don't HAVE to go to a library because it's all on my laptop. That includes anything and everything I would find in the best seminary libraries.
BTW, I own a lot of Jewish studies. And I would salivate shamelessly if the Loeb Classical Library (with Greek interlinear) were in the works! Just sayin' if anyone's listening. :-)

Give it a rest. Bob in no way unfairly characterized Protestants. To quote someone of recent memory, "I are one", and I thought he was right on target -- the tendency among Protestants is to continually split over sometimes silly differences. [:@]

...please understand that you're "surrounded" by people who traditionally are more likely to split a church than seek unity. In the protestant mindset there isn't a single authority figure who will be respected, let alone able to quell debate and dissension.
Mark W. Gaither said:Bob's post was pugnacious and offensive to the majority of Protestant Logos users. I just felt poked in the eye and now have negative, resentful feelings toward a company I like and a product I use daily. I'll let it roll off and continue as I have, but this was not good marketing.

Bob could have chosen better words. Perhaps he should not have said some things. But we protest too strongly if we get offended by the notion that, as protestants, we are prone to division. In my life, I have been a member of at least 5 different denominations / associations. The one I enjoyed the most was the one which allowed for the greatest diversity. However, even in that church / association, there were splits over silly issues like music, style of dress, and building designs. Church "splits" happen in many ways - not all are formal. Some splits happen when the "jones" quit coming because "the pastor" didn't say hello. Other splits happen when college age students don't return to their home church after high school.
Bob's intent was obviously not to offend, but rather, his intention was to help us to not offend one another. I have strong personal convictions in many areas of theology. Recently, I followed someone's signature hyperlink to his blog. At first I was offended by some of the positions he took. I quickly got over my offense, when I realized that some of the strong positions that he takes, he does not share on the Logos forums. His own blog is an appropriate place for him to share his views with congregants, friends, etc. Just not here.

A little off-topic: When will "Redemptive Divorce" by Mark W. Gaither (Author) be available in Logos?
Way off-topic: Can you use your connections with Nelson to secure a pro-rated download of the Nelson 501 book unlock? I like Nelson titles so much I have purchased a majority of the expensive stuff already.
Off-topic 1: I don't know. I worked for Logos for a time and thought about suggesting it. But it felt a little unseemly to ask. I'm proud of the book and I think it's a much needed approach to a prickly problem in the church, but it's not likely to be a big financial success. (Not, of course, my intention for writing it.) Because the publishing department is so swamped, every resource needs to justify the man-hours put to digitizing and tagging.
Off-topic 2: Sure wish I had that kind of pull!

I went ahead and recommended it for you! I think it would be a good resource to have in my library - if not in Logos, then in Vyrso.

My point exactly.

I know Bob's intent; he just let his personal frustration color his posting. Nevertheless, it's out there and popping up on other forums with concerns that Logos has gone anti-Protestant and pro-Catholic. An unfair characterization, but that is the unfortunate fallout from an intemperate posting by the President. Consequently, Logos is likely to lose customers and gain enemies unnecessarily.
I stand by my remarks. Bob did the very thing he condemned. Fortunately, Bob apologized. Apology accepted. Moving on.
Now time to help clean up the mess, first by acknowledging the mistake. I'm doing my part by setting the record straight on those other forums.
For the record, I like Bob. I affirm his intent for the forum. And I support his vision for Logos as a research tool available to all with the widest possible range of resources.

Welcome to the forums Mark. It is good to hear someone else who shares my vision, actually verbalize it.

If the PBB in Logos 4 shapes up like it sounds to be doing, it may be possible to publish it that route. I'm guessing there will be a way to offer commercial ventures through PBB. Then there is Vyrso.. Lots of possibilities.
I have some negative thoughts on that. Works still in copyright were not to be reproduced under the old PBB rules which I doubt will be any different now. Of course, that depends on who holds the copyright too -- the author or the publisher. If the author holds it, I imagine he can do as he pleases depending upon what kind of contract he has with the print publisher.

You are correct, George. Logos has to work with Thomas Nelson on this book. I doubt Thomas Nelson would object, so it's just a matter of cost-benefit for Logos.

Mark, in the future, if PBB is what I hope it will be, give everyone the opportunity to be an author, self publish in Logos, and then work with the other traditional publishers. maintain the copyright to all your woks, in that way, you can publish your work in what ever format you decide.
Looking forward to having your book.

Mark your post is well written and you hit the mark! I appreciate people like you who stand up for what they believe. There are far too many people that are "kiss ups", to Logos and stand in the way of appropriate criticism.

I think I came to a better understanding of Mark's post through my exchange with him. You are right that there are "kiss ups" on the blogs. Unfortunately, there are also those out for a fight.

I think you are right... I just want fair accurate posts, and I think it is acceptable for people to challenge Logos staff and/or policy. What we don't need is the "Superman" type, who always jump in and defend the franchise. Note the word "always", it is great for people to express them self, but let's not be "kiss ups".

This thread has been beaten into submission...it is time for it to expire. Long past time for it to expire. If it is on life support, the plug should be pulled. Finito.
Btw...I'm not on anyone's side here. I'm just tired of seeing so many folks post to this thread...like they feel they get brownie points for posting to Bob's thread or something. Not just the criticisms of Bob's "handling" of the "situation", but the unnecessary [Y] every time he says 'Boo"...especially on this post. It's like the kid in a group who says "That's right" when the adult is giving them all a dressing down. Irritating. Bob wouldn't shut off comments to this thread...he's established that's not his way. But the OP should have been followed with a quiet hush. I'm anything but a Logos groupie. But this country has gotten drunk on its ability to SPOUT OFF on just whatever happens to pass through their minds and fingertips. Whatever happened to taking a good tongue-lashing and holding one's peace? Just put a cork in it already. Enough.
Go post about something else.[I]

I agree with David Paul. It is time to (paraphrasing Paul) "overlook those things which are behind and press toward the goal of our upward calling of God in Christ Jesus" (paraphrase of Philippians 3:13–14).

I can tell you one thing that rankles me....it's the sloppy characterization on internet forums that if someone is positive about an issue, or a person's comments, or even positive about a product...then they are a "kiss up" or "fan boy" or mindless sheeple...(choose your term).
Just because I'm not shy about agreeing with something Bob P has said and I don't take offense every time he posts doesn't make me his fan boy.
That's an inaccurate generalization and sloppy thinking.
