In our company, we used evolutionary optimization with neural nets, to improve the profitability of store layouts (which indeed worked). It was fascinating to watch, since the computer was pretty much on its own.
The resulting process almost exactly matched what you see in geology. Almost no 'between' stages, little change during stages, and destruction of what appears to be highly successful (but unstable) stages. Poor stages could remain right along with very successful ones.
But the difference in our case was real money. Arguments about Darwin were irrelevant if the operating statements improved.
I'm not arguing against God's power to create. Only humans' penchant for believing they can understand.

I agree with you. But I am a guy that still owns a VCR, and a DVD player. And I have LP records, cassette tapes and music CDs. My kids watch movies and listen to music through iTunes. The future looks bleak. [:(]

My mother passed in 2012 (She was 94) She hailed from the day when high tech meant a buggy with steel wheels. She resisted all but the simplest of media machines. There was an antenna on the roof,. The rest of this post is not related to the OP. Dan Francis mentioned the dilemma of how to present Logos to people. Today (the last day of returning a valuable resource) I'm considering whether my solution for that should be using the extra Logos account I have, for that purpose. The few items that account contains consists of what I think anyone would be grateful to receive plus a few free books, and eventually I want to get rid of the entire account. I tried to very briefly express my idea at seminary last week to about three dozen people and have talked to six persons about what Bible Study software is and to three of them I told more about the most valuable resource in the account. So there has been little interest. The New Testament senior lecturer told the class that everyone will be introduced to the Bible Study Software alternatives a year from now - so perhaps I'll have a better chance later on to explain to more people and/or guide them. But at that point I will be focusing on Greek and postponing taking the rest of the seminary program, so my best bet will be to talk to one person at a time. This is legal but the value of the extra copy of the resource (which I have myself as well of course) doesn't make me a better Logos customer, I'm only sure that one person at Logos's office at Accounting knows that I presently operate two accounts.To just return the item (the reason I bought the extra copy in the first place was mostly because of the high discount % on the website) would free money for other things and save interest rate costs as I will be paying off my Accordance and Logos purchases this Autumn with my cheque account. What should I do? I was hoping that someone would for example want to study with me at seminary or study Greek with me, or be my friend, and that that would give me a chance to give or sell the person that account.

I got my wife her own small base package. It is perfectly legal and has several benefits.

I don't think that's short sighted or foolish, it is a trust based on what I have observed about the company that makes me know that I will have no problem transferring my resources to my kids or whomever else I want.

Where'd the idea come from that Bob has to 'earn' people's trust?
I certainly don't demand the CEO of Walmart 'earn' my trust. We go to the store ... see if they have what we want, and if not, check out the Target. Walmart 'earns' for their employees and stockholders. Bob (should) be taking care of his family, and Logos employees. I'd hope whatever events he faces in the future, that he'll take care of these two groups first.
And I certainly don't think Bob will purposely fly his company into the ground, climb out, and then say, 'Well, gee. I guess I didn't earn your trust.' If anything happens, the first to loose will be Bob and the employees. I think they'll try to keep the ship afloat independent of confident guesses for the future and interesting rocks of the shores of Giglio.
That's why ST's question remains on the table.

No but it gives you justification for filling your Logos travel mug with something stronger than it was intended for -- a quintuple shot espresso laced with ...... (sorry, that is the real MVP secret that I'll not reveal).
Actual advantages: The MVP's have each others' email addresses ... and a bit more confidence that 2 or 3 Logos employees will read our emails to them fairly quickly i.e. if something is seriously wrong and needs to be fixed immediately we know that with an appropriate title we can call on Logos to fix/answer the problem. We normally indicate this on the forums by either saying that we have contacted Logos or that we need to wait for a response from Logos. We also know not to abuse this access ... i.e. we learned the moral of "Chicken Little" when we were young.

That should be Most Valuable Posters. For the record, we were elected and selected because of a consistently displayed capacity to provide accurate answers to technical questions on the forums. I weary of the police appellative. *sigh*
The only preferential treatment I can recall is that we get to experience greater forum addiction levels than before, without the guilt.

I'm starting to see a pattern. Both cite justification for various addictions as a key factor. MJ originally pointed to some martyrdom and resentment directed toward fallen stars, and thought better of it. ... But some of us saw it. [:P]
