Thank you, once again, for your response. I do believe I have stated I understand the cost of "doing business", and the expense involved in bringing such a huge and massive project to us. While it sounds very much like I am tearing Logos down, and to some degree, perhaps I have, understand, I do appreciate the system and the work that has been done, undertaken, and underway.
I also understand Logos is a business, not a ministry (which. I disagree with. I do believe it is both). And, there is nothing wrong with being a business. Nor do i believe there is anything wrong with being a business based in Christianity-- so long as fraud is not involved. There is frustration on my part. And that has come across very strongly. There is also what was intended to be a word of caution; which came across very strongly-- and without apology, but with explanation. In that Logos is a business in an area that is God's, not man's, treading carefully is a word to the wise.

Some frustrations I spoke of do actually involve the Perseus collection, and how Logos organizes the library. The Perseus collection (while awesome, and a huge thank you to you, Logos, and all involved is warranted) is indeed a massive collection, that heightens the problem. Perhaps this is my own ignorance on how to use L4 (which adds further to my frustration); but, as I am sure you are aware, this collection is not isolated, but pretty much individually mingled within our library; seems the only way to deal with this, is to hide the collection. The suggestion and hope here, is that Logos will be able to find a way to precategorize libraries, so collections can be condensed (ie, Perseus, commentaries that are in volumes, etc.) so there is only one title, then perhaps once opened, the individual volumes/titles. Much like how Windows categorizes music-- Artist, Album, songs. If there is a way for that to be done, so that it shows when we open our Library, I have not seen how to do this (and, honestly, it's much easier for us, if Logos does this).
I do know there are some tutorial videos; this is good, but, they seem extremely basic, and do not go into more detail. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the MP seminars; and quite frankly, I do not see them as being good. That's my opinion, and I may be wrong, but, I just don't get it; and paying $200+ for the DVDs is just as problematic to me. After all, as one slogan says, "Bible software should not be difficult". And while there is a simplicity to Logos, there is a huge learning curve required if one wishes to make best use of the software.

Again, thank you for your response; the desire to run an open and upfront business, and great phone support (well, usually). Please take my comments with the intended spirit, as outlined above. Thank you for the great things Logos has to offer; and, hopefully the not so great things can be looked into-- although, as they say, "You cant please all the people all the time".

We're not a ministry, we're a business. Always have been, and always have been super-clear about that. 

With that said, there's a reason we're in this business, and we do care about equipping people to study the Bible. But since we don't pass an offering plate or solicit donations like a "ministry", we have to do things that people will pay for.

I'd argue it's even noble -- we're prioritizing things that are arguably the most important, importance being judged by the collective willingness of our Bible-studying-and-preaching users to pay for the product or feature!

(There are downsides to a profit orientation over a non-profit orientation, but the profit orientation has upsides, too: better accountability and direction of resources towards valued  output.)

But that wasn't even the point! The point was we stopped NEW book production for Libronix. My observation that Libronix users don't buy lots of stuff wasn't to indicate they're "less important to us", but rather that since as a class they don't buy much new stuff, stopping "new stuff" production in their format doesn't impact very many people.

Sigh. This is just silly. The vast, vast majority of what we publish is not copyright free. We have to license it, or create it at great expense. Most of the public domain stuff you think we crank out in volume actually goes out through Community Pricing, where we've designed a (unique in the world?) system that minimizes our profits while reducing your price!

Did you miss the Perseus Project release we did for free? PD content that we did much, much more processing work on than most of our PD content, and gave to all of you for free.

Have you noticed http://www.sblgnt.com/ ? That's the Greek NT we produced for free and give away, even to our competitors.

Seen http://lexhamenglishbible.com/ ? That's the new English translation we produced at our cost and give away for free.

How about http://biblestudymagazine.com/ ? http://evangelicalexegeticalcommentary.com/ ? http://lexhambibledictionary.com/ ? http://www.raysd.com/ ? The entire Lexham series? High Definition Commentary? Our syntax databases? etc.

All content we're paying to create and produce, and selling at very reasonable cost.

I'd really like to retire this "you just make money selling public domain content" canard. Not true.

(And I can't even tell you about the big one... yet...)

We do public domain stuff because people want it. It costs a lot to type, because old files can't be reliably scanned. We earn most of our revenue on copyrighted material, and we produce more and more of that at our own expense every day, and we keep pushing price points down year after year after year.

'WOW' is right.

I think Bob listens to the whiners too much.  This just cost him (Logos) a lot of money.  Some of that will come back on the rest of us, as we foot the bill for the whiners.

I respect Bob and his decision.  He's a better man than I am...that's not the group of folks to whom I would have catered.

There are many customers that purchased the 2010 books for $2010 and other large deals over the December period. Its right they can access the Version 3 files as there had been no early warning or notice prior to purchase. My buying was less than $2000 but still no small amount for me. I welcome being able to download and archive off the L3 install programs, my license file and the resource files.

I expect any so-called wasted money will be less than any harm done if this had not had such an outcome. Again, thank you Bob!

I still want offline install and backup for Logos 4, but thats a battle for another day. I have not yet given up! One day Bob will see what his competitors are doing with offline, Notes and other aspects. We do not all love the Cloud, or not having out own content somewhere we own. I see today one of the companies are announcing their PC version of their application.

I read this post and all that comes to mind is... what if Christ were here corporally and read what was written. What would He say? Or, even more so, what about the seeker wanting to find the truth coming across this post. Would they recognize the Church or not?
