Cannot connect to Logos servers
Wiki: TOC, VTOC, HomeForum: Home, General
There are a variety of reasons why Logos might not be able to connect to the Logos servers. Here are some solutions:
2) Expired security certificates
If you’ve checked all of the Logos suggestions, and that didn’t help, another more obscure possible cause is that you’ve got expired security certificates that are causing your machine to view the Logos server as non-trustworthy. You might see an error message like this: “The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.”
Logos has a GoDaddy.com certificate, which is a valid certificate authority. So you need to update your root certificate to fix the problem. See here for more information.
Note that the expiration of your certificates might have been caused by you changing the date/time on your machine.
3) Proxy server problems
This is one more possible obscure cause (Windows):
Check the log file for an error like this: “The remote server returned an error: (514) Web Acceleration Client Error (514) – Proxied HTTPS Request Not Supported.” If you find this, your computer is configured to connect to the Internet via a proxy server, but Logos is not configured accordingly. You must change one or the other of these.
If you need to connect to the Internet via the proxy server (your ISP or IT support staff told you you need to), then follow these steps:
- Close Logos
- Restart Logos while holding the Ctrl key down
- In the Sign in box, click on ”» Proxy settings” which will open up a section with three more fields related to the proxy server
- Fill in the proxy URL, username and password (get the info from your ISP tech support or IT support staff)
- Click “Sign In”
If you don’t need to connect via a proxy server (it slows everything down anyway, so should be avoided if you don’t need it):
- In Windows Control Panel, open Internet Options
- Click on the Connections tab
- Click LAN Settings
- Turn off the checkbox “Use a proxy server for your LAN”
- Click OK and OK again
- Now restart Logos and you should be fine
