What is a Shortcut
- Shortcuts are links which you create that sit on your Shortcuts bar.
- They are similar to your desktop icons which open programs, or to favorites that you save in your browser.
- They allow a single click to open various resources or tools or programs.
- You create these by dragging and dropping an item on to the shortcuts bar, which is located in the Logos toolbar.
Creating Shortcuts
Creating a Shortcut to a Command
- The following steps will guide you in creating a shortcut for the ESV Bible using the Command box.
- In the Command box type open esv.
- In the drop down menu under Resources, click on Open English Standard Version and drag it to a blank spot on the shortcuts bar.
- If you click on the shorcut, Logos will open a new tab for the ESV.
if the ESV was already open then Logos activates it and brings it to the top.
- Some popular commands are:
- Close All, Sync Now, Update Now, Update Active Layout, and Facilitate Serendipitous Discovery
Creating a Shortcut to one of your open Resources
- You can drag an open resource by its tab to create a shortcut:
- Hold your mouse over the tab, then click and drag the tab to the shortcuts bar.
- Logos may hide that tab whilst dragging, but the resource will reappear after you drop the tab on the Shortcuts bar.
- Since you already have the resource open, then clicking on the new shortcut will just ensure that it is active.
- if the tab is closed, the resource will be opened when you click on the shortcut.
Creating a Shortcut to an Internet Link from your Browser
- Whilst there may be variations with individual browsers, you can create shortcuts from:
- the address box; and/or
- the favorites bar or menu
- Have Logos open and behind your browser.
- Have your browser (FireFox here) open and on top of Logos so that you can see the Logos toolbar.
- Navigate your browser to the website that you want to create a shortcut to.
- Drag the icon on the left of the URL (address) to a blank spot on the Shortcuts bar.
- Now if you click on the shortcut it will open your default browser to the website that you linked to.
- If you create a favorite for the website, you should be able to drag it from a menu or a favorites bar.
Creating a Shortcut to a named Layout
- You can create shortcuts to named Logos Layouts
(see the Layouts wiki page to learn how to save a named layout):- Open the Layouts menu.
- On the left side, under Saved Layouts, drag a named layout to the Shortcuts bar.
- If you click on the new shortcut Logos will open that Layout.
- Note that the shortcut is not affected by saving the layout.
- You can create shortcuts to Logos’ tools:
- Open the Tools menu.
- Locate the tool and drag it to the Shortcuts bar.
- If you click on the new shortcut Logos will open that tool.
Creating a Shortcut to Guides and Documents
- You can create shortcuts to your Documents & Guides.
- For Documents:
- Open the Docs menu.
- Use the Find box to locate your document.
- Drag its Name to the Shortcuts bar.
- For Guides:
- Open the Guides menu.
- If necessary, use the Search box to locate your guide (or Workflow).
- Drag it to the Shortcuts bar.
- Right click the shortcut to rename the Label if necessary.
Creating a Shortcut for a Word doc
- You can create a shortcut to a Word document in Logos:
- Open Window’s File Explorer, or macOS Finder, so that it is on top of the Logos window, and its toolbar is visible.
- Locate your file and drag it to the Shortcuts bar.
- If you click on the new shortcut, Logos will open the document in the Word application.
- This method would also work with documents from apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
Creating a Shortcut to a Logos Favorite
- You can create a shortcut to one of your Logos Favorites:
- Locate the favorite and drag it to the Shortcuts bar.
- If you click on the new shortcut it will open your favorite.
Creating a Shortcut for an HTML file
- You can create shortcuts to HTML files on your computer:
- HTML files will open in your default Browser, but they are saved locally on your computer
- Open Window’s File Explorer, or macOS Finder, so that it is on top of the Logos window, and its toolbar is visible.
- Locate your HTML file and drag it to the Shortcuts bar.
- If you had created an OS shortcut to the HTML file, you could drag that to the Shortcuts bar.
- When you use Windows shortcuts, you can control which icon will appear in the Shortcuts bar.
right click the shortcut in File Explorer and change the icon property.
Creating a Shortcut for a Program
- You can create shortcuts to operating system programs:
- In Windows, you need a shortcut for the program, and most shortcuts can only be created on the Desktop.
- Resize the Logos window so that you can see your Desktop.
In macOS, open Finder - Drag the shortcut icon to the Shorcuts bar.
In macOS, drag the app icon from Finder - When you click on your new shortcut Logos will open the program.
Managing Shortcuts
Deleting a Shortcut
- If you want to delete a shortcut:
- Right click on your shortcut.
- In the drop down menu select Delete.
Rearranging your Shortcuts
- If you want to rearrange the order of your shortcuts:
- Click and drag the shortcut icon...
- A vertical I-bar will show the location as you drag.
- Drop the icon in its new position.
Changing Shortcut icon
- You can have a shortcut shown as:
- Icon & text
- Text only
- Icon only
- Right click on the icon that you want to change.
- If you want text as part or all of your icon, click in the textbox and change the label name.
- Click the checkbox if you want the label to be visible.
- To change the icon image, simple select one from the group of icons
- make sure that the Show image box is checked.
Creating Folders
- You may have so many shortcut on your shortcut bar this you find that you have to scroll often.
This is where you need to create folders in order to maximise space:
- Right click on the icon and type a name in the Folder box.
- The icon will be placed inside a folder of that name.
- Click on the folder to open it
- you will see other shortcuts that were given the same folder name
- Right click on a shortcut to make changes
- Beware of these limitations:
- the folder cannot be moved
- to rename a folder you have to edit the folder name in all its shortcut icons.
- to delete a folder you have to clear the folder name in each shortcut.
