Finding a Heading in your Bible using Search
Updated for Logos version 10+

What do you mean by finding a Heading?
- In a Bible, you can’t remember the bible book or the passage reference to what you are looking for?
- But you can remember a word in one of the Headings (or bible Pericopes)
- and you can actually type the word in the Reference box, where it can list the relevant pericopes!
- Fuzzy Bible Search may help you find the words in a phrase, but it can return a lot of erroneous hits.
- Otherwise, you can Search just the Headings, and it will return more relevant hits.
How to Search Headings
Say that we want to find the scriptures where Jesus states “No one knows the day or hour” (or similar).
If necessary, open a Search window from the main Toolbar. Then ....
- Click on Books for the search type (Basic in Logos 9).
- Select a Bible from the resource list.
- Click on the heading that usually displays All Text
- In the drop down menu click on the arrow to the left of Search Fields to expand it.
- Click on Heading Text, and also click on Large Text.
If Heading Text is not present, see Why don’t I see Headings.
Do not select Bible Text.
- Type hour in the Search box and press Enter
The words hour and day would be significant, but hour is less common. - When Logos finishes the search, there should be two results in the NIV 2011 (and most other bibles).
- Click on one of the results and Logos will open that Bible to the heading.
- If you have a collection of Bibles try changing the resource to your collection.
If you prefer a specific bible, you can use Inline Search from its toolbar
- The results can be presented in a number of contexts; usually Sentence, but Aricle is more revealing.
If you are not finding your word
- Enable Match all forms (Match all word forms in the Panel menu of Logos 9).
- Then run your search again.
Why don’t I see Headings in the Search Field?
- Make sure that you are using the Books or Basic search type!
- Not all resources have Heading Text as a search field.
- Ensure you selected the correct resource.
